  1. There is only one good thing about Sonic Rivals... Although I don't have a PSP so I ain't to interested at either.
  2. So then you consider Shadow the Hedgehog part of the main series? even Tails Adventure? or maybe Knuckles Chaotix? hell lets put in that Tails pre-school game in there as well! or does Sonic spin-offs have to be defined by story? Because then I'm sure we can put Sonic Battle in there as well. Oh and level design does not make something a spin-off or not, else I'm calling Sonic R closer to Sonic the Hedgehog then Sonic Adventure because it has more paths for me to chose from. Spin-offs are also defined by what the series is known for, the series is not know for battling aliens, guns, or being child abusers to eight year old foxes, the series is know to star a speedy blue hedgehog who dashes through platform style zones (with friend(s) or not) to stop a some plan to take over/destroy the world. Now back to the convo, Sonic Next American site updated that goes on about 4 player battle mode and two player co-op mode. EDIT 1: Hedgehog May Cry would be awesome, I'd like to play that =E
  3. Well I was speaking about video games in general (as for more story oriented series, yes what I said would be bullshizzle) since story isn't what defines a spin-off in all video game series, although it is a bit of a sketchy subject. Since lets say, Devil May Cry 4 has a new lead role and Daten is presented as a villain to the new lead, does that make it a spin-off? no. For a video game to be a spin-off, its usually down to the drastic change in gameplay from the original gameplay, although that doesn't always apply.
  4. Since when does storyline define if somethings a spin-off or not? Shadow is a supporting character from the Sonic Series and he is the star of his own game, hence his game is a spin-off of the Sonic Series. Same applies to Knuckles Chaotix and Tails Adventure. Sonic Riders is a racing game, Sonic games are known to be platformers, hence why thats a spin-off of the main series itself. Sonic Shuffle and Sonic Fighters would be considered spin-offs too. Sonic Heroes was a game starring Sonic and had the platforming elements of the Sonic games, so its not a spin-off. Story does not make something a spin-off or not.
  5. Well I'd like to point out, Heroes was the only true Sonic game on the 3D side, do we now consider spin-offs as part of the main series of games? I know not all spin-offs are bad, but we can't consider them true indication of the main series state =E If its true that the 6 OPTIONAL characters playing by themselfs is ture, then that is different from the usual, since for once, you don't have to play through their entire story to get them (but I'm guessing their only selectable on certain levels, if true, then a shame, they could have added extra replay value there) I do agree with you, all this play through the game to get the ultra final ending is getting tiring now, Sonic Adventure was okay, but after that...I also find it funny that Shadow can get his own game and he becomes the main hero at the end, as opposed to Sonic who has to share the spotlight with someone for the final battle at the end recently XD Oh and why do I look forward to it? I've played the demo and enjoyed it so thats why I'm looking forward to it.
  6. Hmmm not sure how glitchy but.. 1) Sonic went straight through one of those swing doors without it even moving. 2) When he jump from place to place, sometimes it seems theres a foot of invicible wall his standing on and if you see. 3) In the mech area, he goes straight through a rock. 4) The bridge part could be due to the fact that when Sonic jumps, its set to a certain value instead of just falling straight down if he collides with something (can't really remember if this happened when I did play the demo) I'm speculating on this. Yeah since I like Sonic Adventure, I was hoping for something like this, and you know, DMC4 seems liked beefed up versions of their predecessors to me, which is why I love it so.
  7. D'oh, my info gets reposted again somehow, oh well no biggy XD copy and pasta what I said from the other topic. The pros - Run on water kinda (although theres a slight con to it) - Large green areas, not all narrow, yay! - The camara doesn't seem that bad (can make it go behind you if you want) - The mech speed area seems cool, I hope more are like this and less like Kingdom Valleys. - I am going to go ahead and say that Wave Ocean has one of the best level music for a Sonic game I've heard. The cons - Water running animation is daft. Just his usual roll move on water. - Silver's levels look fun with the powers, but are linear, so no exploring I'm thinking. - Silver sounds like Donatello from Turtles XD (though that may not be a con some people might like him, its okay IMO) - Sonic slows down here and there, mostly the water running parts have drastic effects really quickly.
  8. Well for those still looking forward to the game heres a new video with footage from Wave Ocean, Sonic's play through, after about 2:45 minutes it goes into Silver's Crisis City stage. http://www.insidegamer.nl/xbox360/sonicthehedgehog/videos/1258/ The pros - Run on water kinda (although theres a slight con to it) - Large green areas, not all narrow, yay! - The camara doesn't seem that bad (can make it go behind you if you want) - The mech speed area seems cool, I hope more are like this and less like Kingdom Valleys. - I am going to go ahead and say that Wave Ocean has one of the best level music for a Sonic game I've heard. 9. I find it funnier that Seph could have picked a number of things to be un-happy with this game and ranted about. - A story that is about stopping demons that focuses on a blue hedgehog and his relationship with a human girl - A game that still seems to have level designs that are floating race tracks in the air - The realism about a blue hedgehog and his adventures against a mad Scotsman - The fact that the focus still seems to sway from Sonic to his co-stars here and again - The fact we have SEGA going Sonic is all about "speed" yet we only have ten stages of speed and twenty levels of slowness (well not as fast as Sonic lets say) - That the camara will still bug those who complain about it - The more serious direction Sonic has taken in this game And do I consider this game medicore? no, medicore would be something like Jak and Daxter for me as far as platformers go (short and not much replay value) Sonic Next seem to have nine playable characters (six of which are optional, if they can be played in one level or all I dunno) you probably have a fair more amount of missions here and there, multiple routes for Sonic (Silver and Shadow seem linear though =E) and maybe some interesting boss/badnik designs. I think people should keep in mind when playing Sonic games post Adventure 2 is that Sonic no longer has the same purpose he did in 1991, back then he was meant to sell a console all by himself, which he did very very well, he was used to push the limits of the console and imagination SEGA had, its also pretty evident with Sonic Adventure when it was released. Now his out only to sell his character, not a console. Of course thats my take on it.
  10. Fist of the North Star styled Mario art Funky Cat Maybe Fight! Kikkoman! Meh I haven't found anything new in ages...
  11. Hmm work on the face, what do you mean? keep in mind that my thumb is the size of his face on paper (and my thumb is like 2cm long!) I see what you mean by the add to depth, I tried to make their clothes as shiney as possible since I have no really idea how to shade leather and I thought "screw it, its going to be all bling bling" though I had better luck with this piece Leona Character Design The sword is only flat because of the way the dude is blocking her sword with his gun (Yes they connect or at least look like they are) and I had a hardtime trying to do it any other way, although I'd keep that in mind to make it look less flat next time round. Thanks for the criticism Streak, appreciate that and will keep it in mind for the future.
  12. A giant 3! ba dam dish! @ SefirothDB: Yeah thats what I meant, which I find incredibly silly because we already know the launch date, the specs and alot of things about the PS3, so why bother with a teaser? should have just shown a bunch of games playing in the clip that runs on PS3 hardware.
  13. Wrong. Segata Sanshiro wins all video game adverts end of. And that advert would have been suitable if no one knew what the PS3 (like a teaser) but no, we know what the PS3 is so that advert has no purpose to be like that. So its a very silly silly advert.
  14. I never got to go to High School, HA! And when are we going to see the Mario Bros.? it would have been great if you did the Mario Dance and posted a video of that, suppose its too late for that XD
  15. The Sonic video is new too, look at the updated badniks. Anyway its great to see that the vehicles Shadow drives are not necessary and I don't mind the speed of that vehicle in Dusty Desert (I wouldn't mind a speed up though) what I do mind, is giant pillars coming out of no where. And Shadow's voice reminds me of Solid Snake now XD EDIT: Oh and Crisis City's music is cool, Dusty Desert is okay so far.
  16. I do have one, the problem is I won't be able to get to my hard drive until 6:20pm Greenwich meantime which is six and a half hours time away. I'll e-mail/upload it when I get the chance for you. Below is a double post that has been automagically merged into the original. Sorry Ila, checked my hard drive and was unable to find that assembled Amy sprite, although I found the assembled Sonic sprite on the main site, look for Nitemares third tutorial, it should be the one featuring the wall climbing. Hope that helps.
  17. I thought they were just there to make the outline of the lands clearer, I didn't think they were the beach outlines.
  18. @ Rael, Tentril & Scatta: Thank you for liking it and viewing it! @ Ryan: Hmmm indeed when I was colouring in the picture I was thinking about keeping it in the full picture I scanned it in, however there really wasnt any small bits of details I saw that I thought would be needed for a large picture so I shrunk it down. Anyway I thought it was big enough already XD
  19. The whole problem is the Sonic CD intro And we know the the Little Planet has at least 7 zones (although I'm sure there are more like that editted out desert level) and those 7 zones could all be complete in about 30 minutes. So then, what would the exact size of the planet be if Sonic can complete it in such a short time? EDIT: Now heres the CORRECT editted map. And I'm unsure if there was any islands surrounding Chaos Control (actually it really should just be a dot since it is so small) And I had a thought, could Sonic Rush and Sonic Advance 2 both take place on the same island? or did Cream and her mum move during that time?
  20. DW I was actually going to move Prison Island a bit further away to the land mass but I was going to play around with the map first. As for Never Lake I'm not sure what its size is, it had a freakin planet floating above it (on the size of the planet itself I'm not sure mind you) so the actual size of the lake is undecided with me. Scatta I don't think you can place Green/White forest in a main land mass, I was under the impression that it was on Prison Island, although its condition after the explosion is unknown (I'm guessing most of it is burnt to the ground) Played around with the map a bit more and decided to place the areas of Sonic Heroes and Sonic Battle to the west since you could consider the Heroes start of from Battle's location (I added a bit of land mass, hope you don't mind Smidge) as well as putting in West Side Island (Sonic 2's setting) moved the islands a bit further apart, shrinking Never Lake (its only large in the area where the Never Planet floats above it) and not really sure about the location of Flickies Island since its apparently set in an Alternate Dimension. Also could Angel Island be considered mobile? in S3&K it was in the middle of a vast sea when it fell, in Sonic Adventure next to Mystic Ruins and Knuckles, Chaos and the Emerald Shrine appeared in Sonic Battle (weather or not it could be considered Angel Island is another thing) Anyway heres the editted map Smidge. And sorry DW, when I originally did this post I didn't see your editted map so I'll fix it up later accordingly with the added/editted positions.
  21. For Sonic OVA locations, placed Ice Cap at the top to tie in with what Knuckles says it being at the northern most tip of the planet. I haven't really thought about where the Presidential Palace would be placed considering it, like Angel Island, is a floating island although it'd probably somewhere close to South Island. I bunched the three islands (from the Mega Drive games) together because they felt secluded from the rest of the world with a complete populus of animals in the early games so I thought it be best to keep them away from any major piece of land. Although I'd spread them out a bit further (Sonic 2 intro should us South Island was the only land for miles) Chaos Control being Eggman's base of oparation in Sonic X needed to be close to Station Square if he attacked the city on a regular basis and he did have a gigantic missile pop out out of the middle of the ocean (so he obviously had some sort of bass there anyway) Sonic Advance 2's island was placed somewhere in the middle of the ocean, although I am un-sure if it is the residence of Cream the Rabbit. If it is, should be positioned closer to a land mass IMO Never Lake was surrounded by mountains and grass land with no sight of an ocean at all, so I'm guessing it be positioned somewhere deep into the land mass so I positioned it here. Prison Island. I thought you could use something like the remians of an ex-government base as some sort of level where you find high level baddies to kill, makes sense considering they locked away Shadow there what else would they have? (okay, I'm not really sure if Shadow was on Prison Island when Eggman released but I presume he was) Going with DWs positioning, I placed Sky Rail, Pumpkin Hill, Angel Island and Egg Carrier accordingly. I have been thinking that the locations of Sonic Heroes could be placed at the western continent but as of now I'm not sure what to put on there, maybe some Sonic Underground locations? (if I remember correctly, there was meant to be an area that was never discovered by Doctor E.) or maybe the location of the city in Sonic Battle? (it itself is a coastal city) As for the location of Knothole, not reading the comic books I have no idea where exactly it goes, if it is indeed close to Station Square, I'd say place in between Never Lake and the forest to the right of it. that way its close to one of Eggman's base and Station Square.
  22. Well the dungeons for the game, will they be previous zones from the Sonic games? probably be best if you use zones like Oil Ocean or Scrap Brain since they can both be used for a number of quests (Containing the pollution in Oil Ocean, stop a power cell from melt down in Scrap Brain, shut down the badnik factory in Scrap Brain etc etc yes those ideas need more work) since they continue to present active danger in the SonicVerse. And about the map, it looks great but I'm guessing if we were to put all the old zones of Sonic's in there it'll end up being a bit more "colourful" unless your chosing specific locations from Sonic related media? EDIT: And with what DW said, South Island should be, like that South Island XD and Christmas Island next to it. But DW, we have to remember that part of Mystic Ruins is floating in the sky, not sure if you took that into account. And can't forget the Egg Carrier! I'd point out that sky rail would be just north of Eggman SA2 desert base as well as Pumpkin Hill. I'll add my thoughts later with an image.
  23. True that those are the only cities, but I'm sure Smidge could also use places like Christman and South Island (and if we want to go into Sonic OVA, that would add another city) and Chemical Plant Zone and Casino Night Zone looked like they had some cities on the background
  24. Maybe the idea seems a little silly, but in the Fleetway Sonic the comic, the star posts that you saw around the levels of the Sonic games was used for tansportation for connection with Mobius and that of the special zone, you could use that as a sort of explaination why Sonic's talking to Cosmos in one scene and then Rotor in the next, his just using the star post to hop from one place to another. Anyway I wouldn't mind helping around with the designs of quests, NPC and maybe some map themselfs and the gimmicks along with them. Just wondering if you need any graphics help too or is that taken care of?
  25. The 360 looks like my school's Dell computer tower...
