  1. Do you guys prefer the US soundtrack or the EU/JP soundtrack? (I prefer the EU/JP one more because it was the first I heard and it is just so FUNKEH.)

I'm into JP/EU too... HEY! TURN IT UP!

The US soundtrack is based more on the enviroments and feelings, while the JAP/EU is based more around the actual level themes/tropes.

I'd have to say Hataya's. It's got Cosmic Eternity, which makes for a way better credits sequence than just a longer Sonic Boom. US soundtrack is still pretty nice, though!

  2. I haven't been up to much lately... just snooPING AS usual...

  3. GOD, LET ME STOP LAUGHING The Sonic fan community is quite a diverse community, and calling your type "ordinary" is a bit harsh. But I get what you mean. You're a fan who just really likes the Sonic games, and I'm sure most of us on this board are like that. Sounds legit Alot of my previous aliases have come from this complex of a proccess. Thanks for all the stories, you guys!
  4. Does anyone know a good source for Sonic-esque sound samples (preferably .wav) ?

If were talking original sounds from scratch, then BFXR. If we're talking sonic sounds themselves, then lange's sound pack.

Thanks all, you guys have been really helpful :D

  5. Yep, that's it. The only other place I've seen it done is Sonic GDK.
  6. Around this forum, well, any forum, the usernames tend to be quite strange and original. I started this topic just because I wanted to hear how some have created these bizarre names. I'll start. At the time I was thinking of a username, I had recently heard of the mythological phoenix that rises from it's ashes after death. That's the first part, "rise". The second part, "odvi" comes from this guy that I knew who, rather than saying "obviously", would say "odviously" ... "odvi". Together I pronounce it ree-say-odd-vee... just to let you know.. So that's that! I'd like to hear how you guys came up with yours'!
  7. I just realized how incredibly strange all of our usernames are...

Maybe I should start a thread on how we all got our user names... Nah, too tired, maybe another time.

um my username isn't strange brah

  8. I'd like to think that he looks much better in this. I liked Megamix, but Shadow looked like a marshmallow in that.
  9. Actually, it helps you speed up in a way. When Sonic rolls, he decelerates at a gradual rate. Sonic's unroll allows you to return to running instantly without jumping or grinding to a halt.
  10. I've got this weird problem: every once in a while, all GM fangames will run at about a third of it's usual speed and it won't return to normal until I restart my computer. Anyone have this problem or know how to solve it?

I've had this problem as well but opening it also slows down my entire laptop with it. My solution if that's happening is task manager and ending the games process

Hmm.. I'll try that next time.

  11. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the system and more to do with the process of the disc of Sonic CD being copied.
  12. These are the sprites I made for the "Look Up" animation. They're pretty much edits of some of the idle frames, but hey, they work for me.
  13. The ending of SA2 really made it feel like it could have been the last Sonic game, with Shadow dying and Eggman considering ending his pursuit of global domination. It's easily diffused by the awful mocap and the laughably bad voice-acting, but it's still alot for a game that tells you than your moves are "COOL!" and "JAMMIN'!" These are full games rather than moments, but Sonic CD and LoZ Majora's Mask are pretty dark for their respective series'. The bad future in CD can be pretty jarring if you're expecting it to be like any ol' Sonic game. And Majora's Mask... the whole thing... is messed up. Oh, and if you haven't already found out about this yet, playing a pirated copy of Sonic CD (or putting in a certain cheat code) gives you THIS FRICKIN' THING. EDIT: Oh... one game per franchise. Nah well, I'm sure it's fine.
  14. Yep, you got da zing, son. Hey, thanks for not just brushing off my advice, and I'm excited to see what you'll have for SAGE. http://thumbs.newschoolers.com/index.php?src=http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lydygcLKkC1r57t8v.gif&size=400x1000
  15. I played this and I think it was good, but I think it has much more potential. It feels a bit too much like another engine showcase, it didn't have much to set it apart. The 2nd level was kind of interesting (though very brief) and the first level was okay, but very bland. I would recommend that you put more gimmicks in. Like, couldn't you use those tornadoes from the boss act in the level? Flying from tornado to tornado would be way more interesting than waiting for a slow-moving platform. Overall, I really do like what you have so far, but you need a bit more "zing" to it.
  16. Looks pretty cool... I actually had a level pretty similar to this, but I didn't like how it had turned out so I scrapped it and I'm using a few of it's resources for other parts of the game. The download link in the description wouldn't work. Damn, kinda wanted to play that.
  17. "Otra" "Gaijin" "2" "Bacon" These are the kinds of names I give folder directories it's the reason I can never find a damn thing on my computer :1

At least they're not 'New Folder', 'New Folder 2' and 'New Folder 42'.

Oh yeah, don't worry, I've got quite a few of those too. XD

  18. @Deathbob Thanks, I'm proud of that track. Unroll is triggered by pressing up while rolling. @Overbound Yeah, still pretty early. My mind isn't as much on the graphics as designing the levels right now. I've never heard of Chaomega, but thanks anyway. @Mr. Potatobadger Bingo! I chose them over Modgen because they look more like the S3 graphics. I love Shadow's run animation in this. Thanks for the replies you guys!
  19. Hey, I'm Riseodvi, and I'm making a fan game that somewhat pays homage to Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Adventure 2. Sonic has the ability to insta-shield, peelout, and roll and unroll while running. Shadow has the ability to increase his horizontal velocity in mid air and rebound a fixed distance from enemies, allowing him to chain jumps from enemy to enemy with ease. SCREENSHOT TIME: Some tiles are placeholders if you couldn't already tell... Some art will be ripped, some are taken from TMFZ, and some will be by me, and I'm making custom music for it. Here's the boss theme that I made: https://soundcloud.com/riseodvi/sets/boss-battle Another feature is that both Sonic and Shadow can use shields, but Shadow's shield ability will be the inverse of Sonic's (an idea given to me by P3DRO). I reserve the right to cancel this at any time, but at the moment, I have full intention on finishing it. I'm going to release a brief demo in an edit of this post soon, so stay tuned. As for a SAGE release, I'll only make a demo for that when I have 3 complete zones with nice art, so that could be the later act of SAGE. This is sort of a pet project of mine, but if you want to help, you can contribute art or music. PM me and I'll send you some photos and descriptions to send you in the right direction. Well, that's that! Thanks for reading, and tell me what you think of the demo when it comes out.
  20. Ha Ha, the Naruto series suffers from the same problem. All of the post-timeskip games start with "Hello Konoha!"
  21. I remember Budokai 3 being okay. It was a fighting game, but much weirder than the likes of Street Fighter. I remember it having alot of monitoring meters and countering attacks. I haven't played a DBZ game since, so I wouldn't know how they've been recently.
  22. Just sayin', something like this may be better fit in "Videogame discussion" rather than "Fangame Showcase". But I agree with Ironrind, try disabling the sound in-game.
  23. I couldn't single out genres. I think there is music worth listening to in all genres. Hard Rock, Country, Pop, Rap, Dub-step, I've swung with'em all And while many songs can be categorized, many songs can't just be shoved under a genre Look at the lyrics below: "When I stand before you shining In the early morning Sun When I feel the engines roar And I think of what we've done Oh the bittersweet reflection As we kiss the earth goodbye As the waves and echoes of the Towns become the ghosts of time" That looks like a poem or something, but that's from Iron Maiden, defined as a heavy metal band.
