  1. Interesting project, and works quite well, for a work in progress. There's some nasty slowdown in there, like Midiman pointed out, but it's well on its way to emulate the Genesis games. Of course, Retro Sonic already did this, but it's nice to see that you can accomplish that level of accuracy on MMF. Now, Sonic the Hedgehog Worlds... I commend you for your ambition, and I would help you if I could, because that's the most ambitious idea I've heard of around these parts. And it rings true to me: I'm still very much interested in fan-gaming, but anything other than the design process is such a chore that I would never get any project off the ground. Fine-tune an engine and create wicked gfx are way out of my league, I'm more of a layout man. Having a basic "Sonic" engine ready for public use would probably spawn a nice community of people really commited to create good, original Sonic levels. Maybe some people would be able to build a reputation in the fan-gaming community as "level designers", contributing levels to various fangames. One-man teams are becoming rarer as games get more complex, and this would be an excellent vehicle to encourage collaboration within the community.
  2. Two year-old engine test from an old project =/= final product. Keep that in mind, kids! Looking sexy, as always. Now make sure the level design is rock-solid, that's always the trickiest part of developing a game. So, you know, make it so all the levels have something different to offer, not just visually but gameplay-wise, pace them just right, the whole deal. That's the only way people like Blue Frenzy will play the game for something more than a ride through Sir Euan's Magic Art Land. Not that that's a bad ride.
  3. So, I think there's enough data to correlate summer time with old members coming back, we could even make a chart! Welcome back.
  4. InstantSonic! Long time no... read. Awsome art, as always, also I love shmups so I'll be looking forward to this a great deal. Just don't forget to include hundreds of enemies on-screen, ridiculous attacks and huge bosses... I'm sure you know, the whole deal ;P.
  5. Absolutely, the site was never supposed to act as a dump for people's content, there's plenty of places that offer that kind of service. SFGHQ serves more as a library of content for sonic fan gamers that anyone can check and take stuff from without having to sort through hundreds of sprites and tutorials that just aren't necessary or up to par with some of the other stuff avaliable. If everybody was allowed to upload content at will, the amount of content avaliable would ramp up yes, but the overall quality of the content avaliable? Not so much. As for the comment section, I'm with Ty and Smidge. Things would get messy. As it is, you can be sure that what reviews are up are actually worth reading. It might seem like we're sacrificing some freedom, but with the kind of people this community sometimes gets (not an attack at anyone currently on the forums, you know what I'm talking about), I believe it's worth it. Plus you can always post whatever you want to share with the community on these forums.
  6. Yeah, soul mate's a bit too much, regular mate will do. Glad you got someone to make music, more fangames could use original music, instead of "Oh, it's the Palmtree Panic music. Again. Oh, it's that invencibility song. Hooray." But I'm straying from the topic, sorry =P.
  7. You need to put the bass.dll file in the game's folder. Usually people include it when they release their demos... *hinthint*
  8. http://www.clickteam.info/extensions/extview.php?id=160 Download, install according to the instructions. As for the game, you say it is almost complete? I can't say I liked it, at least as it currently is, but you've got some good ideas there. I say listen to complains, fix what needs to be fixed and you've got a great game there, especially if this is your first attempt. You just need to make it shine.
  9. Nobody was calling you a "noob" (actually using that term is frowned upon, or at least us last time I checked), we were just posting our opinions, which is exactly what you asked for, right? =P In fact, it only makes sense to think that a bunch of people would be able to make a better fangame than a single person. It just happens to be nearly impossible (at least at our level) to coordinate people like that, especially online, especially if some people live in different time zones, and have their own agendas besides working on a fangame. Like it was said, it's not like it can't be done, but good luck making it work. That's why people tend to work alone, or at most, work as two-man team that won't get in each other's way. @Euan: Oh, you.
  10. I absolutely agree with ila. People come to the boards to get some advice on some specific issues or to get feedback from the community, but outside these "walls" it's much like real life, you get involved in things without having to look for them. When I was more involved in fangaming, I'd help up people not because they asked me, but because we'd be talking about their stuff on aim and i'd offer to code this thing that he couldn't, or i'd say "hey, I touched up this graphic you sent me, what do you think". Of course, if someone I knew asked me for help, I'd help them, I was just backing up ila's point. Then of course, there's the other side of the coin, which I think I'm in a good position to talk about, because of oh, a little something called Sonic Forever... The thing with that is that yes, me and Euan had some good ideas, and we both knew our stuff. Thing is, most of our skills collided instead of forming this whole (we were good at the same things, so-so at the same things) which ended up with having us both working on the same things, at the same time, not a good working model. Furthermore, we did things at different paces, and we didn't really coordinate our efforts. At the beginning we both had roughly the same vision for the game, but as time progressed we started drifting apart and our visions started to be incompatible. All this was, obviously, let to us eventually canning the project and Euan restarting Sonic XG (which is probably going to turn better than SF ever could anyway, heh). So if you really want to working in a game with other people, remember to get people whose skills don't collide, and organize them, don't just let everyone do whatever they want, define where you are, where you want to get to, and what you need to do to get there. If you just need this specific thing done and you don't have the skills to do it just ask on the forums, or ask a friend. There's always someone out there willing to help you. Don't just get random people's aim screennames and start asking them for help, though. That's really annoying.
  11. That's Second Life you're talking about, right? You still working on Groove, right? Please tell me you're still working on Groove.
  12. Belle & Sebastian and Lemmings? If there was a thumbs up smiley, I'd be overusing it right now. Will that remake be playable on Windows?
