  1. Hey, I just looked through some old posts because I remembered at one point, Lake was taking suggestions for the name of Groove Glow... Now, although (as far as I can see), no one suggested that name... it seems one of my own suggestions was "Misty Mine". Did... did I actually make a contribution to the name of Misty Maze, or is that just a coincidence they both have 'Misty' in the name, and that level had already been made? Not that it matters, am just curious.
  2. I thought that. Then I realised it's the name of the bit where you climb the tower to find Gerem + Princess. I had just never looked at the name before.
  3. I thiiiink it's "Overthere Stair - Super Paper Mario". I watched what I think is lone's playthrough to remind myself but... the game's music doesn't always sync up with scenes right in the game, I've noticed (not in his video, I mean the game in general). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HIkuGZej2g
  4. Oh maaaan, get with the times, maaaaaan, we're already half way through "Sonic Chrono Adventure 2: Electric Boogaloo". Where you up to?
  5. Ha, yeah, it's really more geared towards people in to the Metroid style of game. I was never good at Metroid but that's just because I'm bad at 2D shooters. The exploration concept is cool though. So combined with a playstyle I can do (...sonic), I finally got to play a Metroid style game!
  6. Ah, k, that makes sense. So it like, temporarily splits them up with the individual routes and their separate routes affect their partner's route that allows the other character to progress, and then they meet up at the end. Schweet.
  7. Yes (@ super sonic) and my God you're not used to forums, are you? There's an edit button for your posts so you can change them without reposting. Also, to do spoilers you surround the spoiler with spoiler tags. I dunno the syntax for character escapes on here so it's basically: [ spoiler ] stuff here [ /spoiler ] (without the spaces in the tags)
  8. Hey hey, old buddy! I get the idea about the character specific obstacles but wouldn't character specific ROUTES force people to split up? It'd be more of a race than a co-op. Unless I read that wrong... Anyway, yeah, character specific obstacles = must have. HOWEVER, it means you'd have to make a route for every character combination. What if Sonic and Tails went in and a route required Sonic and Knuckles? You'd have to make a Sonic and Tails route too. But then what about a Sonic and Amy combo? Or a Tails and Knuckles combo? etcetc. I mean, you could make routes for single characters (e.g. you only require Knuckles) but then the other player would have no use. THUS, the inverse alternative: Obstacles that can be over come by ALL characters, EXCEPT ONE. That way, you can have as little as ONE route and as long as both (or however many there are) players are different characters, everyone can play a part and the route is always solvable. So basically, you'd encounter an obstacle like a chasm or something and if you're Sonic, you're all "I can't jump this..." but if you have any other character, they'll have a way to cross it (Tails flies, Knuckles glides etc). Each obstacle exploits a weakness in one character. However, this might make it a little boring since every route will have pretty much the same progression. Therefore, I think you'd have to make it so the ENTRANCE to each route can only be opened by one character so only a team with a certain character can access certain routes and some obstacles along the way require them more (however, then that person does more work than the others... maybe later it checks which routes you've taken and FORCES you to not take that character's route in the future, so everyone gets a chance to be the main character?) So basically it's a fight between: Varying Routes but LOTS of them so it takes ages to make a level... or Similar Routes but less time to make them (or improve it by making it force other characters to enter the limelight). So yeah, on the routes than can only be accessed using certain characters, it'd be like this, which could make the 'similar route' thing work to an extent (however it'd still be pretty repetitive... but save a lot of development time).
  9. (He saw it on the Sonic Stadium thread about Chrono Adventure) *snickers*
  10. I've always liked the idea. Sonic 2 co-op is always fun but... on one screen it sucked. If you make it split-screen or online play, then it'd be epic. Should prolly throw in character specific obstacles so people don't just run off without their friend (hopefully if they're friends they'll be messing around together anyway, instead of running off). The end zone where bosses are should have a wait thingy so that it only initiates when all players are there. I've always wanted to put such a concept in to my own game (COMING SOON (whenever I have time to make it (probably in about 30 years time))).
  11. I think I'm gonna write a walkthrough for the game later...with a better >.> map and stuff...I can do that right? I had the XP bar glitch on the 5th emerald too. It isn't broken though. It fixed itself when I got the 6th.
  12. Never seen this topic before but now someone has brought it up...: Huge persistent world containing all the famous zones seamlessly linked together, WoW style. SA2/Generations physics. No turn-based MMORPG elements. Actual attacks like in the games. Dungeon/Quest equivalents being race tracks and/or "Action stages" where you team up with others to take on more open levels. They're found dotted around the Zones. Zones are regions which contain stages themed on that Zone and contain players of Level X to Y. The levels don't require multiple people due to the enemy strength (but there are a lot of enemies) but they're needed because you need teamwork to overcome various obstacles, e.g. a strength character like Knuckles would be used to break obstacles or something, for the team. Some things would require tag team moves, e.g. speed characters combining with power characters to... bulldoze something, I dunno, I haven't thought out the details. You would level up by defeating enemies, collecting rings, doing Action stages and PvP events. Leveling would enable you to purchase items such as those in the Adventure games (bounce bracelet or whatever), as well as vanity items (some are earned by defeating certain stages or bosses). Rings would be currency, earned by collecting in stages and completing Action stages. Have a feeling you could worm the Chaos Emeralds in there somewhere. Unsure if it should be a story thing or a character specific thing (maybe the overall story is that the emeralds have been shattered and you can collect shards and if you have enough shards of each emerald you can use them to go super? That way everyone could have their own emerald...) PvP would consist of multiple game modes such as races, 1-on-1 fights, and maybe some team games like Capture the Flag scenarios (imagine chasing people down in that...). There would be various classes, similar to Heroes but more expansive, such as Magic/Psychic characters like Blaze and Silver, Thief-style roles such as Fang, and Tech roles such as Eggman and Tails. Certain zones would be sectioned off in difficulty based on what gear you have. Unsure how bosses would work. I see them scaling in strength based on the levels of the party attacking. It'd work like a normal boss battle in Sonic but with a proper numeric health bar instead of a certain number of hits. His strength, defense, health etc would be determined by aspects of the party. POSSIBLY end each zone with some huge boss that requires you to be of a certain level to face (might be too restricting). Another uncertainty: enemies have health bars too and their own stats so you need higher levels and/or gear to face them but... they might be a bit weird seeing 10 Sonic clones homing attacking some Motobug over and over. Might stick with the gear required to pass certain obstacles element. E.g. to get to the next Zone, you have to have purchased the Light Dash shoes or something which are a lvl 10 item so you need to be lvl 10 to access the next zone (stops people just running to the last zone). Character creation would consist of picking a species and a class (possibly picking an allegiance too... Like the Light/Dark side stories of Adventure 2. Could make for some interesting clan wars). And yeah, clans just for fun. There's social hubs between/in zones such as Station Square or whatever, which contain shops, training stages, socialising areas, dueling areas, maybe even housing, and so on. Only problems I see are: 1. Team balancing. 2 Power characters where one is a seasoned player and one is new makes the new one seem redundant. Either levels have to be specifically designed to take advantage of all players OR there needs to be a balancing thing before hand (unless you've chosen to play with friends then it's whatever layout you want, as long as your team has 1 of each class and if it doesn't, it finds some random people who are just looking for any team, to join). 2. Solo instances would be lacking. There'd be some 1-player levels specific to each class but... I don't really see the point of getting a Sonic MMO in the way I describe and then playing a bunch of 1-player levels anyway. So yeah, I think the idea is feasible (prolly full of flaws, I thought it up as I was typing, damn it). Dunno whether it'd take off. Most established franchise MMO attempts tend to either fail or just... become unheard of. I'd play my version though. Brb finding C++ networking libraries.
  13. I believe it was "It Has to Be This Way" from Metal Gear Rising.
  14. Ha, no problem! <3 Also, for those wondering about collecting all the stuffs:
  15. Damn that was epic. Just finished it. Curiously, the level I thought I'd hate the most turned out to be the one that I liked the most. When you posted up screenshots of that honeycomb level, I thought "oh great. Bee hive theme level. *sigh*". Turns out it wasn't what I expected AT ALL. My mind was blown by the reality of what it was. Only things that annoyed me were that if you die, it resets the whole game and you have to go through the main menu to reload. I'd prefer it if it gave you the choice to reload or quit, upon death. And in the story, there were a few loose ends that annoyed me. Like the honeycomb level... everything that happened then kinda just got... forgotten. And Sonic's little friend who didn't seem to do much at the end (why the coughing?). There were some humorous spelling errors but they didn't annoy me. Just made me laugh (lol @ Akillies Heal instead of Achilles' Heel). But the overall story was epic and the ending was kinda magical (also, the finale was epic. The ATS finale was a bit meh but you really kicked ass with this one!). Now I just gotta go back and collect everything I missed! Already recommended it to all my retro gaming friends...
  16. Basic Check: "Try running in Admin mode". I doubt lacking Admin mode would deny access to a core .dll but meh, worth a shot. ENTER LONG HELP ATTEMPT: "?in@?codecvt" codecvt is a character set conversion function in C++, something that I've had problems with in the past due to the bit architecture (as in, 32-bit or 64-bit Windows versions). Could be that. I'm running 64-bit and it runs fine. It won't be a performance function, since it seems to be a specific Windows function it's failing to find in a missing .dll which would indicate either: It's looking in the wrong folder (which could happen if the program is trying to reference the wrong bit architecture like I mentioned above) OR as Justin originally said your VS redistributable is out of date or non-existent. I'd advise redownloading the VS Redistributable from Justin's link, if you haven't already. And some questions if that doesn't work: Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows? And Justin: What architecture is the program compiled for? I forget how to check that with std C++ libraries... Whatever, just some ideas. There's definitely a .dll it can't find/access somewhere, or at least an outdated one.
  17. Every time I see Alex has posted on a topic, I break out the popcorn.
  18. I heard that it's on the 31st September.
  19. The link isn't broken but the site is denying access (403 Forbidden error). You seem to have it set to be inaccessible to the public (thus you can see it).

  21. lawl, I think the "Spoiler Tag" time has passed.
