Wow, seeing this thread makes me feel like I am taking the cheap way out I just make & use looping ADX's for my music and a modified in_cube to play them. Makes perfect looping and I could just copy & paste the music files from the Dreamcast era and later Sonic games. Well, for GM that is, I never really used MMF. But that's an interesting idea, I never would have thought of that.

If you are using MMF, you can just make a colored sprite and apply alpha/transparency to it in MMF. If you are using GM, you can just draw a colored rectangle with and change the alpha on it.

The best way to do it would probably be by using surfaces, but the way I am going mine, it only works well with the background.
