  1. This thread exists to preserve and protect the Fangames that made this community what it is today. Ever since Sonic Boom (The first known Sonic Fangame) Sonic Fans have been envisioning and inventing their own Sonic games with the help of software like Kilk & Play, Game Maker and Multimedia Fusion. Much like the internet itself, the early days of the Fangaming community were like the wild west: Everyone made a game. They were all over the place. The communities even made their own sites for storing these projects: Sonic Fangames HQ and Mario Fan Game Galaxy are notable examples. But, over time, Fangaming has been waning in popularity. Does that mean there's been there has been less coverage of them? No, Sonic Fan Remix and Sonic 2 HD are great examples of this. But does it mean the community has shrunk in size and releases have been less common? Yes. Recently there had been talk about what happened to those old forgotten games. Have they fallen into the depths of the internet, never to be seen or heard again, or are they still around? Well, that's what we aim to find out. I have been following the Fangaming community since about 2003 - it was on the cusp of the Wild West days and starting to head more into what I call the "Overcritical" phase. I kept and saved a lot of those Fangames on hard drives and discs, and now I'm here to share what I have. The other reason for this thread is also a significant reason why we need to find and keep these games: They made the community what it is today. Some modern Fangame developers would say that other, past releases have influenced their work in some shape or form. It also represents a different era where you didn't have to make anything amazing - it was more about the fact that one could make a game and add their own imaginative spins on the formulas rather then being overly precise on gameplay (Although that's not to suggest people at that time weren't trying to make their games closer to official engines, or that it is wrong to aim for these things). What I'm getting at here is, things have changed. And some times, it feels good to look at the past and go, "Remember when" or to have a better understanding of how things were back then. And this thread is for all that and more. Below, spoilered, is a list of Fangames I have out of my own collection. If the title is underlined, then you can click and download the game on it's own. I will add games to this list when I either feel like it or am requested to do so. Apologies if the naming conventions are only on a few titles, I had to re-write this list due to the forum malfunction and I'm simply too tired at the moment to do it. If there is a title you want that you don't see in the above list, check out the Old Fangames thread on Sonic Retro. These have a lot of even older fangames that I'd eventually like to add to this list but will take a long time. Thanks for checking the thread out. Hopefully this helps someone out there looking for that one game for forever ago...
