  1. More importantly, what does Weird Al have to do with Ila's username?
  2. Any suggestions on which is better and / or what to change? @ Nefault1st: Perfect, It's Pokemon Slots all over again except this time, it'll be my Rings disappearing. Seriously though, it looks a like a nice distraction from the main part of the game. It looks too flat and square around the edges. I think it would look a bit better if you rounded a few corners, such as the character slots and the corners around the HUD, but that's just me. Other than that, I like the second one.
  3. A while back, (Check page 123 for more details...) I mentioned that I was cooking up an in-game manual for Sonic Epsilon, which I will not be featuring at SAGE this year. Well, I think I'll just drop this in here and slip back to my researching and maze-o-matic-ing.
  4. Now that looks pretty lively to me. Would be nice to incorporate a second floor, through use of a warp instead of platforming though. (Exit the side of the screen or press a button to go to 2F, something similar to that.) Whenever I see something like that I just think of how that would go over in reality. Then again, this isn't really a reality based game, but how would you feel if you suddenly saw someone jump up through a hole in the second floor and just walk over to a game all non-chalant.
  5. Yeah, that's the entire marketing ploy of this game. I'm using people's hatred of those special stages as a way to make people want to play it. By the way it's not just Sonic 1's special stages, it's got a bunch of original levels as well for challenge mode.
  6. Okay so I have a teaser trailer out for Maze -O- Matic, you guys should check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITVUBvV6Uyo
  7. To me: SatAM and pretty much anything that has to do with Archie-Sonic feels so...out of place. It's way too dark and it tries to give a bigger plot to a series of games that only work so well because they have the most basic of plots. For instance, they made Robotnik a very dark and super evil sounding villain that wanted nothing short of taking over the world and enslaving the inhabitants, when in most every other media, he was crazed and evil, but also really funny and childish. Adventures captured the feeling of the games better by making Robotnik a comical, yet serious at times villain and keeping plot to a minimum. The Chaos Emerald sub-plot showed that a plot could exist in it, but other than those small things, it sucked just as much as SatAM. Sonic X....No. I fucking hate Sonic X. It is an irredeemable piece of shit that should have never been created, much less picked up by 4Kids Entertainment for dubbing. As for the OVA... This was one of the only ones I really liked, but I can't watch it more than once in a very long time period. (Like once every three months.) I can't stand the odd voice acting, I can't stand the corny lines that the english dub put in, and I can't stand how everything acts like it's on crack. So...yeah. To me, Sonic just isn't cut out for animation. If I had to pick one, I would have picked the OVA or Adventures, just because they're an almost happy medium between the worlds that the genesis games put forth and their own, original worlds.
  8. Guys, guys, can we maybe change the location of this discussion to one of your own topics or possibly the PM system?
  9. So it looks like Sonic has somehow fused with the first boss from BTS Aftermath. Or it could be a completely different character altogether. However, I'm just going by what it looks like. and Mr. Poe, I believe your are going about this incorrectly. You're treating the classic games as if they follow a strict pathway. (As in one happens right after the other.) I like to think of the classic games as sort of like a comic book series. There are a few comics here and there that have nothing to do with the previous storyline you saw before. They're just fluff and are there to distract you while the artists and writers design the next part of the REAL story. Think of BTS and ATS as those fluff comics, only there to give a little insight as to what's happening in-between the main stories. Now Sonic CD and Sonic 4 can go either way. Some treat both as legitimate stories and regard them to be shoehorned somewhere in the series, while others say they're just fluff and put them where ever. (The people that like and dislike both sets respectively.) In other words: There isn't really a place in the timeline for Sonic CD unless you make one. Forget about BTS and ATS, they hold no meaning with this particular game YOU are making. Forget about the American manuals, because they were made by SOA to make Sonic "Rad" and "Hip" with the American crowd, and I never said anything about those stories anyway. But I'm de-railing this thread way too much. This sort of thing should be saved from private messages, and I will do as such.
  10. Except that it's stated in the Japanese manual for Sonic 1 that Sonic had many encounters with Dr. Eggman, the Chaos emeralds, and even South Island before Sonic 1 even started. Not only that, but it never states explicitly that Sonic 2 takes place DIRECTLY after Sonic 1. (Like Sonic immediately heads off towards Westside Island, where Miles resides.)BTS is the only thing I've ever seen (Aside from some comics) that claims Sonic 2 happens very shortly after Sonic 1. I'd say that S2 probably happened about a year and a half after the first game did due to all of new stuff that's just suddenly THERE at the start of the game. (Miles, the Tornado,You know, the DEATH EGG, something that should have taken MONTHS to build.)
  11. I do not, actually. That usually isn't revealed until later into the summer. I was simply starting my summer off right by revealing my entry for SAGE. However, SAGE usually starts around August, if there aren't any...ahem...delays. If there are, then it usually starts in September.
  12. It's the start of the summer and I'm already getting prepared for SAGE this year. I will not, however, be entering Sonic Epsilon as a booth this year. I've realized that I will not have any time to put into it this summer, and decided to work on something smaller.
  13. Also, depending on whether or not you want the environmental changing to be a main factor, you might want to keep areas that take advantage of it to a minimum. Possibly add them in as a part of the main level early on, but make them more sparse later so that they're more of an optional thing.
  14. Whether or not the flow is broken really depends on whether or not your character "fits" his or her environment. What is the player character designed for?
  15. Well I thought my work was done with that model. Case Closed, time to pack up, any relations are pure coincidence. and I was absolutely wrong. I took the model into Unity, where I can manually re-texture models. After that, I simply swapped out the textures for Jam's spring texture and I got this: Note, I did not do anything to the model beforehand. I only swapped out the Adventure Textures for the Sonic Jam textures. Perfect fit, matches up correctly, everything. It's not super astounding, but it's still pretty cool how it matches up with the Jam Textures. Compare it to the spring below it, which has messed up formatting due to a file change or something.
  16. NEW UPDATE: Really, really sorry to not only TRIPLE post, but also bring this back from the dead. I have something interesting to show. I've been working with Andrew75/Tuxmask75 on Jam. (Yes, the guy that's doing ASXS.) He had a cache of most of Sonic World's models and I was the guy running the show, so we kind of got together and teamed up. We are currently sifting through Sonic Adventure along with Sonic Jam to match up some unused/barely used content and see how it fits in with its counterpart. (Jam to Adventure and Vice Versa.) The first of these objects? The newly found hidden spring from Sonic Adventure that resembles not only a Classic styled spring, but also the spring object from Sonic World. I think this image speaks for itself. From Left to Right: Adventure Spring, Unused Spring, Jam Spring. As it is, that particular model uses a texture that's (possibly) unused in Adventure. I at first though it was used for the wide springs, but that model uses the same detailed star that's used by the regular spring. The unused model uses a less detailed star and tiles it where the texture normally ends. I'm going to do a re-texture and see if I can get the original Jam textures on the unused spring.
  17. Reminds me of Classic Sonic's Emerald Coast in the Adventure mod, especially with that city in the background
  18. Perhaps it rotates as you go. Given the previous two games that Lake has done, I wouldn't doubt that he's going to wow us with some gorgeous background effects.
  19. Bro, if you can't program, then you have no business directing a project like this in my honest opinion. The way I see it, a director of a project should know at least some moderate knowledge of the many things they oversee and manage. (After all, how can you expect to tell a programmer exactly what you want if you can't use the jargon and know what you're talking about?) On top of all that, a director should also be doing the core of the work, with the rest of the team adding in things the director is either too busy to do or cannot possibly do with the time he has. I realize I'm coming off as a rude git here, but I've seen way too many request threads in the time I've spent trying to be a better programmer and it's only been recently that I've realized what it takes to actually be a good head of a project. Tl;dr You have got to learn how to do the things you want done before you can come in here and request "hired" help.
  20. Needs more bunnies and treasure hunting if you ask me.
  21. That's perfectly understandable, I dislike having to go into extra detail when making a story. I prefer to have a situation where I know everything from the start, but you don't know anything unless I show it to you a little bit at a time. Back stories and character origins can be a powerful thing, but they end up becoming too complicated once you get into a simple universe like Sonic. (And it IS a simple universe: Dr. Robotnik hates Sonic, but only wants his own theme park, no matter the consequence. Sonic hates Dr. Robotnik because of his pollution and wants to stop him at every turn. It's a vicious cycle that never ends, but it's a simple one.
  22. You seriously thought nobody on a SONIC fan-forum would notice that you happened to name your fan-game after one of the worst Sonic 1 ports of all time, if not the worst!? Granted, the name makes sense, considering your game's supposed to be explaining where Sonic came from and all. Perhaps something like "Sonic Origins" or something would work? Just naming it "The Genesis" is a little too similar to flat out "Genesis", and people could get confused.
  23. Feedback/criticism on what to improve? It reminds me of Super Mario World's environments. I do not like Super Mario World's environments because they're pretty much the same tiles with different colors. But in all seriousness, you should make that grass POP! It's flat and looks like it's painted onto the bricks.
  24. Well at the moment, I'm currently using the Purple version for the lit up sign and the darker blue for when it's unlit. (The other colors were replaced with colors that matched the feeling that the sign was "off".)
  25. Got some designs for the neon signs that will decorate the background of Sapphire City Zone. No, it's not a mistake that the sign reads SAGE '98. It's meant to be a joke on naming things with the year number after it. (Yes, I know that SAGE didn't start until 2000.) The SAGE sign uses a rotating pallet, the SFGHQ sign flashes the outlines and the inner areas of the logo, and the Genesis sign is WIP. Also with the Genesis sign, which do you like better? I personally like the top one better, but the bottom sign was the original one.
