That's a good point, Pedro.

Work in progress for Act 1 of the third stage. My main concern is if the darker colors make it look too sinister. xD; (Also, yes, I'm working on adding more detail to that bottom-left building.)
Looks great,Strife! (: It reminds me of Aquarium Park.

Anyone have advice on how to improve this? I'm having a difficult time figuring out level graphics..
[qimg]http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk115/Dwapook/eyehurtslessmore_.png[/qimg]
It looks pretty good so far,the only thing is that compared to the rest of the colors the ground tiles are too bright.
maybe something like this is better? (sorry for my crappy photoshop edit,I just wanted to give you an idea how to make the colors look better.)
Also, the foreground is kind of boring, you should add a few level decorations. (:
EDIT: It is maybe better to change the resolution to 320x240,that way it doesn't look blurry.

The new snow looks great IMO.
I just find the background boring.....looks so plain. I hope your just using it as a placeholder. xD

Indeed, making good remakes is quite a big challenge. Personally,I would be interested in seeing a good advance styled sonic 1 remake, but I guess its not really popular among general audience.
-
This may sound a little unfair but this seems like a project that will inevitably die in a couple of weeks and will never be heard of again.
True story. I actually want to see someone complete a remake for once.

Jet dude, Eat A Dick
Okay?
Why did I even say something in the first place? I knew it.
Anyway,I am not going to bother arguing with anyone here
-
@ SONICVISION.
I suggest you to stop flaming at us and not more or less beg for team-mates.
Being friendly and making your project reliable makes it easier to find helpers.
Also, sonic crossovers aren't really that popular, unless it is made REALLY good.
Not trying to be rude, just some advice for you.

New screenshot. Nothing special, just showing the loop. (sorry for bad quality this time)
I also fixed up the little issue I had.
Another, newbie question. So since I got MMF2 to work on my computer,I wonder if there is any open source sonic advance styled engine for MMF2? I am wondering this because,I see so many MMF2 Games that look like they are built with the same engine. I'm just asking. But I guess I will stick to gamemaker for this game.
-
Sorry for hiatus again.
As sad as it is,I think I'm going to keep Sonic Megalo a minigame with only 4 acts in total (each one is different though). Its my lack of experience. After I finish this little project I am going to start to work on a long time project, I started a year ago already, but never seriously did anything. Its is a genesis styled game,I am seriously better with those. I will use the Dash or worlds engine for it. I got MMF2 to work, but I have no experience with it at all.
So now to Sonic Megalo.
Here is a screeny of the new act
Now I'm going to get thousands of comments saying this act makes no sense whatsoever. The level graphics arent 100% final yet,but I think I will continue with those graphics, since advance games REALLY haven't much tiles to use. And I suck at making advance tiles.
And I have a little issue I just can't seem to figure out.
Sonic keeps running behind level decor like this
Even though the level decor is drawn on depth layer -95 and sonic on layer -10000
Any solution? I am using the DEV engine.
I know this question should be in the help forum, but it is really small, and I don't want to waste board space.
You guys really need a "Small questions that aren't worth making an entire new topic" theard.

Looking good!
Sonics accerlation seems a bit broken though :/
It looks like he speeds up too fast.
-
Shit like this though, i dont know how they can think anyone will care for another Sonic 4 episode after playing Generations.
True. Sonic Generations had a huge hype. Sonic 4 episode 2 has no hype at all,I never knew about it before I saw this theard. Even though the teaser was up for like...longer than a month. (I just saw the teaser today. )
It's probably because Sonic 4 episode 1 didn't go so well, then SEGA tried to fix it up with sonic generations, now most of the fans are happy with generations classic sonic and nobody cares about sonic 4 anymore.

@Strife
Thanks dude!
@Delta
Looks nice,better than I thought.
and for names.....I think Stardust Stadium sounds the best.
-
How is this? Looks better IMO,but you will need to change some tiles to make it match the BG. :/
-
@Delta toyed with your BG a bit...
It's just a very simple edit......I made the buildings in the back more dull,so they look like they would be more far away and not mix with the foreground.
<- This here is just a little personal touch to it.Though I dont thing most of you will like it.Anyways, I was just playing around as you told us to. XD
@chaos fusion Thanks,but they're not the best.
-
Just trying to make some orginal level graphics. I have never really made any before,so this is more or less my first time doing them.
also, this screenie is not related to Sonic Megalo. I am taking a little break from Sonic Megalo, and Instead,I am just messing around with the DASH/XMAS engine and trying to make some tiles. I also got MMF2 to work, now I only need a few addons to get Sonic Worlds running.
-
4 FPS..... thats awful.
-
Oh,I see. Now I remember that you talked about the framerate issues.
Do the framerate issues occur on every computer you tested the game on,or just on yours? (another curious question -___-)
Anyhow,I don't really mind if you change engines.
-
What is wrong with using the DASH engine? It seemed to be fine, and SuperBliz knows alot about the engine......so why do you want to use another one? (just curious question)
-
Wow,even my really poor netbook can run this game perfectly! It works for me
The level design is ok,I guess, though the game has some bugs. shadow sometimes gets stuck on a slope,or at one part he somehow fell through the ground. But actually I find the level design pretty good for now,I would just like to see some 360* degree movement when the level is done.
good job so far,I wish you luck on your project!.............oh and did I mention that I love the level music?
-
Ok,then I finished act 1 of Palmtree Valley. (pending name)
Since I was too lazy to make a video,I just made a demo.
download: http://www.mediafire.com/?6odhdeb1hg1eadn
and now just for comparing, here is the old version of Sonic Megalo: http://www.mediafire.com/?g6v266hh9joj2ia (I wouldn't really recommend it,because it is REALLY broken, but if you want to see my improvment, the you can try it.)
I will work on act 2 now,and then I'll fix up act 1 a bit.
things to fix in act 1:
-some tiles
-make the level a little longer/better level design
-try to fix bugs
Oh and here what is what I've done so far:
-added parallax
-edited sonics accerlation a bit,so he wont move so stiff.
If you are going to criticise this, then please keep in mind, that I'm working all alone and this is my first project.
and here is a second logo I made!
-
@ SaitoSan Thanks! yeah,it is such a drag. I actually would use MMF2 if I could get it to work on my PC. and I still need to learn how to use MMF2.
@ Hybrid35 I actually know, many people have told me that GM is actually a good program. but I guess it doesn't help right now.....since I am uncapable to learn GML right now.
so people got any suggestions where I should start learning GML?or how is the easiest way to learn it?
-
LOGO TIME!
<- What do you think? I know it is simple.
-
Taking Hybrid35's suggestion,I made some stuff. here is a W.I.P screeny
Yeah,so I have decided to use the DEV engine.
I think the new tiles look alot better than the blue-grey ones.
I might also change the grass, but right now my goal is to get the first act of the first zone done. I have been re-doing this level for thousands of times, but I am never happy with the level design.Right now I am just gonna pull myself together and get act 1 decently done, maybe release a demo, get feedback and then focus on the details. I sometimes think I am overdoing with trying to hard, right now I am focusing too much on perfection,I don't even have a concept for this level yet,I more or less know what I am aiming for,but I still need to think through.I am going to think up a proper concept, cause otherwise I will just be sitting all night long and remaking the stupid thing over and over again. <-- personal vent-ish reminder,I am really sorry if I start babbling too much, you don't really need to care.
And idk How much I am gonna make this game, right now it has only 4 zones planned. The first level is like any other green hill type level, the second is a acient ruin type thing, third one is a desert level, and the last one a space/mecha/eggman themed one. Right now this game is planned to be really simple, since I am not gonna learn complex gamemaker coding right now. Though,I might switch to sonic worlds if I can get MMF2 to work on my PC.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!......the end of the world can wait. XD
Anyway, best wishes to you guys, hope you will have a great new year!

Feedback/criticism on what to improve?
Other than shadows and brick variations,I think the grass looks too flat. Try making it a little bigger and more varied. (adding different shades of green,or making more defined grass strands) Also you could try adding some highlights on the bricks to make them look more three dimensional.
It actually looks good, but just a bit flat and needs more variation.
