I don't think SA1 and SA2 had shoddy engines. Programming platforming engines that work at high speeds and with the unusual requirements (walking on walls and ceilings) of Sonic games are very difficult to do. It's far more complex than programming an engine for a Mario style game.
Mario and Sonic games are like a car vs a rocket. Cars are much more reliable than rockets but don't go nearly as fast. The trade of is rockets tend to blow up.

Awesome release Renhoek. The levels are a lot of fun and the engine feels more polished. Great Work! I cannot wait to see what you come up with for Sagexpo 2015. I went ahead and made an announcement on Sonic United.

I am going to have to say Rap or Hiphop. I used to be large into Alternative and Classic rock in high school. But after a while it all started to sound the same and I moved on.

Yeah it really does look great. Very professional looking, has a great art style.

Thanks a lot for that man! Massively apperciated any sort of exsposure I can get with this.
No problem, I posted it on reddit, Google+, SAGExpo Facebook page and Twitter too. Promoting games like this is my main goal for SU/SFGHQ.

That looks so awesome, I posted the video on the main site.

That looks awesome I love the sharp contrast in the background elements and the water. How will the blocks of water work? Do you sink in them?

R2 is really looking amazing. I am really looking forward to trying it out.

Bigger models are less taxing by far. If you build a level out of "legos" then each lego has 6 sides assuming we're talking about rectangles. Where if you build a single large model you only draw the sides actually seen by the player.

Sereph that rock monster is bad ass!

A few people said they'd make archives. I'm not sure if they did or not. I couldn't keep the SAGExpo server up any longer because it was too expensive.
In the future we'll have SFGHQ to keep all the games on. I'm working on it as fast as I can, it's even taking priority over Time Twisted.
Most of the download links can be found in Mercury's reviews on SU.org for now.

That stinks for taxman. But TBH I'd take Retro Sonic over all the ports.

I have a memory of being about 7 years old and playing Sonic 3 at my grandmothers house with debug mode on. I remember thinking how unique Sonic was compared to other platformers and thought about how I wanted to make a game like that. That thought never went away, so I guess I am trying to fulfill a childhood dream.

Ironically, we're dealing with a bug in MMF2 that breaks the game one you reach a certain amount of actives. MMF2 does have tons of limitations.
That sucks, I'm dealing with limitations of GM and processing level tiles myself. Makes me want to start using monogame and C#.
I personally do not think that anyone is truly creative. I am of the opinion that all of human invention was inspired by observing nature. I feel everything humans make is derivative from that. In the end I think what is important is not what inspired you but what you do with that inspiration.

Looking very impressive, the level seems large and full secretes. The physics leave something to be desired though. It's probably stock SonicGDK in that regard, but Sonic seems very heavy and sluggish.
-
it's hard to say what caused it. It could be that you just don't have enough memory to run the game. The final game will take up a lot less memory and hopefully that will fix it.
-
It's just Admin tweaking and testing stuff.

So this topic seems a bit worthless and I do not believe this is a SAGExpo game. *Lock*

I submitted Highwire's Sage video along with a PR release to 25-30 different gaming websites. Please comment and like the SAGExpo video if we can get more activity we'll be more likely to get a response.

FYI your fonts you are using don't work well with the SFGHQ night theme. It is barely readable.
I'm looking forward to you streaming Huepow. -
Thanks for the report Renhoek. I don't have fixes for them yet but I will work on it. I did update the demo to fix Spykid's issues though.

I've fixed both issues and am uploading a new version.

That's a new one to me. Shouldn't be too difficult to fix though. Thanks for reporting it.
Things that were wrong with sonic 06

It's the speed, momentum and running on ceilings at certain speeds that makes Sonic game engines more difficult. I could program a half decent Mario engine when I was 13, but even to this day at 26 I would still have trouble coding a Sonic engine. That's only the 2D engines though I shutter to think of the 3D ones. So yeah it's THAT much more difficult.
