  1. AFAIK Middleware's sound format or any of their other products are not open source unless you are a developer. There is a possibility to develop a extension for MMF2 with the source code of those ADX2WAV tools flying around on the net, but I don't think they will be happy if that happens.

Konjak used MODtracker to compose the music in Noitu Love/2 and Legend of Princess. Not sure if it has a extension or it is a obscure format for MMF tho.

  2. Try using PSound to check which files are sound effects containers. The program was designed to work with PS games but since it looks for uncompressed PCM data, it should work for other games too. If that doesn't work try opening them in any audio editor that allows you to open files as raw data.

This way I was able to extract all SFX and instruments from Sonic the Fighters/Championship.

  3. I take it none of said execs will even hear the ongoing criticisms from, oh... Everyone around them?

If they're so dead-set on making money above all else, you'd think they'd make the games that people actually want to buy, the stuff we the people want from them...

Developing games only to the niche market is pretty risky if you want to stay afloat in the industry. Casual audience is where the money is now.
