I freaking love your work. Stylish, colorful, so damn good!

      Since when do you draw?

been drawing most of my life, but I only did Sonic fanart really all the way up until 2009. Late 09 was when I started to branch out into more original stuff, I've made a lot of progress since then.

      Also thanks dude :D

  1. It's definitely reinvigorated my interest in the medium, although I wouldn't say it is necessarily saving anime. I mean there is a lot of different stuff out there for everyone with different interests - it just so happens that a good 90% of that stuff doesn't appeal to me. However this season I've been watching Kyousogiga (another great one) and this, when in the past year alone I haven't even watched any anime as it has come out. It's definitely bringing that over the top appeal that I like from the older Gainax works into the mix. Next season I'll have Space Dandy to add to the list too. It's a good time for some more oddball/creative shows out there right now compared to previous seasons!
  2. Haha yeah I did it over facebook since I couldn't find a contact email and I know on their official facebook page they sometimes post in English too. So I sent them a polite private message and apologized for the lack of Japanese etc and asked them if they were hiring (preferably in storyboard positions) and all that good stuff. Threw in a link to my portfolio as well and a couple weeks later they got back to me! It was pretty cool, even though I was basically told they weren't looking outside of Japan for now it still really made my day haha.
  3. I actually did submit my portfolio to them and they got back to me, but due to them being a smaller size right now they aren't taking foreigners. I wouldn't be surprised too if my lack of being able to speak Japanese would hurt me too but I figured it was worth a shot just to see!
  4. "Kill la Kill (キルラキル Kiru ra Kiru?) is a television anime series produced by Trigger. The series, which is Trigger's first original television anime project, is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by Kazuki Nakashima, both of whom had previously worked together on Gurren Lagann. The series began airing in Japan from October 3, 2013. Aniplex of America has licensed the anime for a simulcast and a home video release. A manga adaptation by Ryō Akizuki began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace magazine from October 4, 2013." - Wikipedia Anyone else here watching it? I've seen gsoft mentioned it in the SFGHQ/United merge thread and that gave me the idea to create this topic. For anyone who knows me even a little is that I am a huge fan of Hiroyuki Imaishi, his work has influenced my own over the last few years quite immensely. I am instantly drawn to his incredible, snappy keyframe animation and his foreshortening heavy visual style. However he isn't the only one from Trigger that I take influence from as there is a multitude of high talent sitting in that studio (You Yoshinari and Sushio for example). I have not been this in love with an anime since Gurren Lagann melted my face off when it came out, which introduced me to the talents of the people who inspire me a lot today. I went back and watched Dead Leaves, FLCL, Diebuster etc after watching Gurren. Before that I wasn't really a huge buff on anime haha! The stuff just oozes style. So far I've been impressed with this show on all fronts. Kinda seems like something I'd probably draw so that alone is like a +1 for my enjoyment right there. Also for acting on a limited budget as Trigger is a smaller studio, the work still really holds up and is full of energy. There is clear visual shortcuts taken in some of the episodes but they know how to work around them fairly well. A staple of a lot of Imaishi's past projects has always been using limited animation in his favour. Dead Leaves comes to mind with animation even more limited than what is present here but given a very comic book approach. I feel Kill La Kill kind of has that same sort of feel minus the comic paneling compositions present there. It knows full well what it is as a show and executes itself with a lot of competency that only could come about from the collective years of experience these people have. I mean this is the same studio that made Little Witch Academia and that too was brilliant. I also love how its taking the high school setting and the magical girl trope and making it into something I can really get into, as those two tropes aren't really my deal most of the time. So yeah, anyone else watching this? Thoughts? As you can tell I love the hell out of it and Trigger as a whole but I'm curious to know who else has been keeping up with this one.
  5. Ah the SFGHQ skin. It just wasn't the same without it.

Right that was kind of the point. They had a nice site, server, and forums and we had legacy, and a bigger community forums. It was like PB&J.

haha its cool, it looks more or less around what I was used to with the old site. Just having the blue and the checkerboard pattern back already goes a long way!

  6. I guess there is an image limit here? Needed to split this into two posts. A few sketches for a personal project: Yeah.
  7. I guess this is as good a time as any to update this thread...again. But with artwork this time. Anyway was doing a 30 character challenge thing for November and quit on day 7 like a loser. Technically I only finished up to day 4 but w/e.
  8. Ice Stage (demo) - its honestly pretty complete though. Here are a few randoms/other WIPs Some random song I made A PSO inspired-ish track since I haven't really done one of those in a bit. A random track I made yesterday that overall I'm pretty happy with
  9. Here is some music: Batshit Unicorn Concept OST (where it is right now). There are quite a few pieces of music in here so far. Some pieces are obviously still major WIPs. BANG! (Near Final v.2) Some random ass thing Bullet City <<<Heavily inspired by old-school VGM and Kavinsky this one is.
  10. Everyone forgets about DW, he's around and he does stuff too. I mean Overbound is great but we can't forget DW as well! Also other people beat me to the 'no screens/no topic' thing but I mean I guess he does have screens in the screen thread. So I'm kinda torn myself on what to make of it. Probably should have copy/pasted the screens from the other thread into here just to be safe. You can always edit them into the first post.
  11. Yeah but why bother shoehorning a story in if its going to be boring, uninteresting with awful dialogue that feels far too forced, and a lot of stuff that you throw at the player and expect them to care about. I like simple stories don't get me wrong. But this was something the designers felt they wanted to put in the game and thus I am going to rightly critique it because its awful. I actually didn't mind some of the writing of the last few games because it served its purpose. The writing was still flat and was dumb still, but it wasn't anything I was going to start groaning about because for the most part it made sense. This game just tries so hard to be something more than paper thin, have players be emotionally invested in, and its falling flat on its face doing so. The Deadly Six are incredibly boring villains. The only writing, again, that is of any good is Eggman's bits which are just as great as they have been in recent years. It makes me wonder why they needed to throw in these wannabe villains because who are they and why should I care? I dunno I just get the impression that almost everything in this game besides the music was incredibly half-assed haha. I just get that vibe from this game like they tried but only to get to a "on par" level and then gave themselves a pat on the back and said "we're done". No, I haven't played it but nothing of what I have seen has excited me - it reeks of boring level design :/. Also I have to chuckle at the fact that its okay to put in a story if its the fangaming communities fave fangames. They're great fangames but could we stop always bringing them up everytime an official release is involved? I swear there was a rule here somewhere about people knocking that stuff off.
  12. I'm not surprised there are a lot of bad reviews going around. Its another mixed bag scenario I guess concerning them. Personally IGN has always been a throwaway for me so I don't care what they think, but the game isn't holding up all that well across the board. Quite frankly, for once, I haven't really been interested since I saw the first reveals. I hate the tube aesthetic and the way the game looks to run in motion and the levels look bland and boring. The graphical style seems to only go halfway I feel, but I kind of wonder if that is an intentional blandness or system limitations. Sure it's bright but it all feels so...flat. It's kinda gross to look at and feels half-realized. I do appreciate what they are trying to do though as I prefer it over the extremely realistic approaches prior to Unleashed. I've been watching some playthroughs of the game on youtube too and I guess I'm failing to see a lot of clever level design. I mean I've sat through watching entire levels that are set on a grind rail going straight in one direction. At the very least when previous games had the dumb idea to do that they at least let you boost and threw a lot more obstacles at you to try and at least spice up some incredibly lazy level design. I dunno - I am just not that impressed by anything I've seen. The story also feels incredibly underwhelming as well, though I have to admit Eggman again steals the show and his writing is just as consistent as it always has been. I probably am not going to pick this game up on either platform (not that I have a Wii U, but I do have a 3DS and I am gonna pass). None of it appeals to me. I think this is the first time I've consciously made a decision to pass up a Sonic game when having at least a system to grab it on. Maybe I'm just expecting more from a studio that has had this franchise going now for 20+ years by this point and I'll never be satisfied - I dunno. Just my thoughts anyway. I haven't played it but I pretty much watched the entire game. I will say this though - the soundtrack is so good. I am so glad they have long since ditched the crappy vocal themes and buttrock and started to make tracks that really fit the levels. They did a wicked job on that.
  13. Haha Sereph. THANKS I GUESS. But no seriously happy birthday dude, and happy belated birthday to you too Alex :0
  14. I thought there was a birthday thread somewhere, why are we all making our own birthday threads. If I knew we were all doing this I'd have made mine months ago. Fuck life.
  15. Ah shucks man, thanks a lot. I appreciate it. I really hope it paves the way to working on a lot of cool projects.
  16. Thanks dude! Yeah I did some concept art, but its for things I can't talk about/post about due to an NDA. Not sure if they'll ever be shown the light of day though.
  17. I've done some freelance for them and I'm trying to get put on that project ;o;. I agree, Wayforward makes some sweet games. Shantae is an awesome series too and I am glad to see it making the jump to consoles.
  18. A lot of good stuff in here guys. I've really digging what you've been showing off Overbound, Time Twisted looks as cool as ever. That slime looks great too Sereph! Also Highwire I like the direction of the graphics you got going on there.
