Upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-Speed-ia Pre-Order Page Cites Ian Flynn as Game Story Writer
Update:
It’s possible the pre-order listing is poorly worded and is referring to the previous Sonic Forces and Team Sonic Racing tie-in comics, which were written by Ian Flynn. Thanks to Tails’ Channel for updating us.
Amazon has just made the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-Speed-ia available to pre-order. The Amazon pre-order page reveals potentially new details regarding the future of the games. Ian Flynn is listed as a writer for “a number of stories for Sonic the Hedgehog video game series and its spin-offs.”
This could easily be a mistake in the listing, however Pontac and Graff’s Linkedin pages no longer list they are currently working for SEGA of America. Pontac’s page says he has been done since 2019, and Graff’s says he has been done since October 2019. Pontac also stated in an interview a few months ago “we had a good run” which heavily implies they are finished writing for the Sonic series. Following this update, there has been no news on who will be writing and localizing the game stories moving forward. If this listing isn’t a mistake, then it looks like Ian Flynn will be at the helm of the game stories.
Ian Flynn, also known by his Internet brand, the BumbleKing, is an American comic writer. He is currently the head writer for the IDW Publishing Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.
Flynn was previously the chief writer for the Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its various spin-offs. His tenure began in 2006 with Sonic the Hedgehog #160, and lasted until the comics’ cancellation in 2017. He has also written a couple of episodes for the second season of Sonic Boom, and a number of stories for the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series and its spin-offs.
Ian Flynn started writing for the Sonic series back in 2006 for Archie Comics. Ian Flynn’s first issue was issue #160. Flynn is currently the lead writer of IDW’s Sonic comic series. Flynn has already written for the Sonic series outside of the comics. Flynn wrote the Sonic Boom episode “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Worse-er”. Flynn writing for the games is definitely a possibility at this point.
