Sonic Forces Custom Character Trailer Analyzed
As teased yesterday, a new trailer has been given of Sonic Forces. Said trailer confirms, as many suspected, that the third playable character will be a completely customizable hero.
The trailer shows Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic running around, the newly named level, Park Avenue, with the confirmed customizable character by their side.
Also briefly showcased in the trailer is the customization menu for the character. The menu indicates that most of the character is completely interchangeable, and custom. Three parts of headwear, gloves, bodysuits, shoes, color, and presumably animal type are available to customize. In terms of gameplay, it appears that the custom character will be a cross between Modern and Classic Sonic, with a twist. As part of the customizable options, gadgets (called “Wispons”) are the primary way to attack and traverse with this character, along with a grappling hook for puzzles and platforming.
IGN received exclusive information on certain aspects of the game, going into further detail. According to their article:
…The create-a-character option will allow players to build off of one of seven archetypes to design a character integral to the upcoming Sonic game’s narrative…
…The seven character types each come with their own special ability, which are:
-
Bear — Blows away enemies with a homing attack
-
Bird — Flies high with double jump abilities
-
Cat — Keeps one ring after being hit
-
Dog — Restarts with five rings after the player dies
-
Hedgehog — Collects rings when getting damaged
-
Rabbit — Has longer invincible time after receiving damage
-
Wolf — Automatically draws in rings when near them
Art and multiple screenshots have also been released to IGN, feel free to check them out in the gallery below.
Another notable tidbit from the trailer we found are the options underneath the customizable character.
It appears as though there are multiple options in terms of gameplay. “WORLD MAP” seems to indicate either an online leaderboard to upload scores, or perhaps a central hub / level select, similar to Sonic Unleashed. Missions also seem to also be returning from Sonic Generations and Sonic Lost World.
And lastly, a trailer with gameplay of the custom character in Park Avenue was released alongside the previous trailer. It showcases the use of gadgets, and the grappling hook.
That’s all so far. We’ll keep you posted if any new information surfaces.
