There have been many rumors regarding a potential remake of Sonic Adventure for a while. We received details on supposed remakes of both Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 in September 2019. The source behind these details was also responsible for an early version of the Sonic Forces script leaking the year prior, which was also sent to us.
The source behind the leaks asked us to publish an article covering the remakes, however we decided not to at the time. With more details recently surfacing regarding the remakes, we decided to share what was sent to us. While the source behind this leak is credible, this should be regarded as nothing more than a rumor. The following details is a direct quote of what was sent to us.
- Info being shared is from 2017.
- Developed by SEGA Shanghai (SEGA of China) who developed the HD ports of Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, amongst other SEGA franchises.
- Game(s?) set to release in China, fully translated.
- Was set to be teased at SXSW 2020.
- Production started a few years back, but never made it past what was basically alpha builds/tests.
- Shelved because the continuation of the production was dependent on Sonic Forces’ success (was deemed commercially successful).
- Release was to consist of Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 remakes.
- Were to be treated like one episodic game, both on the same engine.
- Is testing grounds to see if Sonic Adventure 3 is viable (yeah I said that unironically).
- Music was also causing huge issues at the time. Contracts and rights were trying to be sorted out, so music changes would/are pretty likely going to be present.
- I had been told there was actually something special about the Chao Gardens in the remake, though it was very vague on what that was.
- I’m NOT going to bank on every detail being exact, but I can PROMISE this project is happening.
The same source recently informed us the project was shelved a while ago and that some material from the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 remakes is being shared, so it’s possible the material might leak at some point in the future.
While these details on possible remakes are interesting, this should be seen as nothing more than a rumor. There has been no official announcement regarding potential remakes of Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2. Iizuka did express interest in remaking Sonic Adventure during an interview with Retro Gamer Magazine back in 2018. This is the only official news we have heard.

Is the most recent thing your source said, is that “the project was shelved a while ago”? So, it means that the last thing you were told is that the project was shelved, or were you just saying that it was shelved before Forces, while SEGA was waiting for Forces success?
