Near the end of the Sonic 25th Anniversary Party, Iizuka announced that Sonic Mania was NOT the 2017 project he previously mentioned. Then, we where shown this.

Yes, it looks as if Classic Sonic is back in our next game, which essentially looks to be Sonic Generations 2 (though I must stress, the project is currently unnamed)
The game is being worked on by Sonic Team, and is scheduled to release in the fourth quarter of 2017 for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo NX.
More details are sure to come! We’ll keep you posted.
