Fans Speculate Charles Martinet Has Been Replaced in the Super Mario Bros. Series

Following the reveal of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, many fans have stated Mario doesn’t sound quite the same. Some fans have questioned whether Charles Martinet has been replaced. Quite a few fans find the voice for Mario in the new game to be drastically different from Charles Martinet’s recent voice work for his cameo role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Many fans have also stated Wario’s voice in the new WarioWare trailer is very different.

I believe Charles may be taking a different voice direction this time for the plumber, more in-line with the voice direction for the Mario movie following its box office success. It’s possible the WarioWare voice is placeholder by the trailer narrator. This is my own speculation. As it currently stands, I agree these voice clips sound noticeably different. I don’t think a recast is out of the question. At the same time, this could still very easily be Charles Martinet. Nintendo did seem to insist for Charles to have a small role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. A recast for Mario would be historical for gaming. We’ll have to wait and see.
