  1. Sonic Lost World was in development for 2 years. Sonic Forces was in development for 4 years, however 2 years were spent on the graphical engine and the other 2 were spent on the actual game. Based on the development timelines of recent titles, do you think there will be a new main series Sonic title in 2019?
  2. Sonic Generations was released in 2011 and was met with acclaim from fans along with good scores from critics. It was praised for quite some time, however it has been almost 8 years since Sonic Generations was released. Do you think it still holds up today?
  3. Recently there have been rumors about a possible new Sonic & All-Stars Racing title being in development. Apparently placeholder Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed toys were featured at a recent toy event which stated there was a new racing game coming out this year. Supposed slides from a Sumo Digital presentation also leaked: This was also posted by the same person who leaked information on Sonic Forces in advance (staff checked IP to confirm this isn't an imposter): Keep in mind these are all just rumors. Nothing has been confirmed yet.
  4. Welcome to the Sonic Advance 4 OST! An Awesome fanmade soundtrack (i'm sure you'll love), made as a tribute to SEGA, Wavemaster, even Hideki Naganuma (for some minor Sonic Rush/JSR/F elements in some songs) and the composers of Sonic Advance 1, 2, 3, Battle & Pinball Party! The soundtrack is created by me, featuring many many other artists who've contributed, such as Shirojyuu, DJ Max-E, Charles Ritz! It was all due to curiosity; when I got my hands on the sonic advance soundfonts, I thought "hmm what if there was a 4th instalment to the Sonic Advance series, what would the soundtrack be like?" and thus, this project was born, which will be available for download in the near future! This is basically what's gonna happen - There are 2 Acts & a Map theme for each zone - like Sonic Advance 3 (just without the 3rd act lol.) There is also a Map theme for Central City - which is the main hub (it's a "preperation before starting a level" hub) The official album art of the OST, but it's a work in progress. ^ The old album art but it still looks nice ^ Please, if you love the OST, be sure to share it around with people!
  5. Hey guys! I made a remix to the Tunnel theme from Sonic Boom 3DS Shattered Crystal. It's not finished but it will be soon! I transcribed everything by myself (and not that well) but I hope you like it. Check it ouuuut! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15vpdkzW4vc
  6. The Boost trilogy consists of Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colours, and Sonic Generations. Sonic Unleashed is the game which started it all, introducing the fast paced Boost styled 3D gameplay formula. Sonic Colours then took the gameplay formula and slowed it down quite a bit to allow for better platforming. Sonic Generations tweaked the gameplay formula even further to allow for better 3D exploration. What's your favourite title in the Boost trilogy and why? My favourite out of the three is Sonic Colours. I find the gameplay to be the most fun due to its slower pace and bigger emphasis on platforming. The level tropes are all very unique. From a candy factory above the clouds, to an alien filled forest in space. It's very different from level tropes in previous Sonic games. The soundtrack is very well composed. I'd have to say it's one of my favourite game soundtracks. The game does have its flaws such as the shallow story and linear 3D paths, but I honestly can't see SEGA making another Sonic game which matches the level of creativity in this game. It's that good.
  7. Hello everyone. My name is SuperShadic2012. This may seem abrupt, but I need your help for creating a massive Sonic themed Minecraft map/mod. This map is NOT a copy of SonicCraft. It's a totally different map, with Super HD textures, new levels, and remakes of South Island, the Death Egg, and probably the Egg Carrier from Sonic Adventure. That's right, we are not only doing Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, and CD, but even the games from the Dreamcast era (with Shadow The Hedgehog) and the Modern era (with Sonic Lost World)! But to do this, we need help from some of you! We are a small group of three at the moment: NuryRush98, Fedezoful, and me. Please, help us create something awesome! We've been working on the project since last year and are really close to the end of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. I hope we get lots of responses on this thread as I'm really excited for everyone to check out my cool project! EDIT: There are the links for the images. 8. Hello folks, I've wanted to share an idea with you. Similar to the "Top 5 games" threat here I wanted to make a list of my personal top 5 of level themes in the Sonic the Hedgehog games. But without real rules! Please use "http://info.sonicretro.org/Level_themes" as a list of all level themes, but you may also tell others IF you can tell arguements why this level theme is not part of the info.sonicretro.org list. Let's begin #5: Green Hill theme/tropical island cliché What would be a Sonic game without one of these, they are fun easy and always bring you into the spirit of Sonic games. Many people dislike their position as the first Zone of a game but I think this is great because you can easily stack up on lives and continiues. Notable Zones in this theme include: the ORIGINAL Green Hill, Palmtree Panic, Sunset Hill, Leaf Forest and Green HIll. #4: Flying fortress theme A great theme, sadly a rare one too. I love to call these level "Flying Fucks", just cause I can. These levels mostly appear late in the game and are rather difficult, but still fun. Just the idea of a giant flying military station is already interesting. Notable Zones in this theme include: F*ckin' Battery from S&K, Wing F*ckfest from S2 and Sky B*tch from S1(8-Bit). (yes I usually refer these Zone with these names, deal with it!) #3: Urban theme I always loved the city levels. They were huge, had so much going on and were, unlike other levels, mostly rational. Their speed and simple platforming made those levels extreme fun 'cause they really showcased what Sonic was about, speed and platfoming. Generally these levels were more easy than difficult, but fun was still havable. Notable Zones in this theme include: Route 99, Gigalopolis, Star Light and Stardust Speedway #2: Casino/carnival theme The music in the zones is great, the level design is god-like and the overall atmosphere is rather slow paced. But still this theme features lots and lots of gimmicks, most of them are fun and lots of ways to spend too much time in these Zones. Considering they are not that hard, it's still a good place to farm lives and continues. Notable Zones in this theme include: Casino Night, carnival Night, Cosmic Casino, Casino Paradise and Toy Kingdom. #1: Industrial theme Robotnik is evil, right? Robotnik builds robots, right? To build robots you need you nee da factory, right? Robotnik has HUGE factories and I love them! They are most of the time difficult, sometimes even cheap but still, seeing what the ol' Doc can build up, it is simply fascinating. Notable Zones in this theme include: Metropolis, Scrap Brain, Metalic Madness, Secret Base and Wacky Workbench. This is my o(pi)nion, tell me yours by answering to this topic and have fun!
  9. A couple of days ago there was a job listing from SEGA's UK-based Hardlight studio, which is focused on creating games for mobile and portable platforms. "The Studio comprises small, agile teams working on new IP & well-known SEGA IP. Project durations are 5-10 months, building on the success of their first projects on iOS – Sonic Jump & Sonic Dash – Hardlight is now working on some new & exciting projects." Kotaku has now received an actual confirmation from SEGA that the new mobile Sonic title is indeed in development. “At this time, Sega is able to confirm that we are working on a new mobile game titled Sonic Dash. We have not announced any specific details on the product but we will be releasing additional information on this exciting, new game in the near future.” Source: Kotaku
  10. http://sonicunited.org/2013/05/17/sonic-lost-world-officially-revealed-plus-partnership-and-new-mario-sonic-title/ I am unsure if I'll be picking this up. I have never been a fan of the Mario & Sonic sports series, but judging by the screenshots this game seems to have had quite some effort put into it. What's your thoughts on the new Mario & Sonic sports title?
  11. Sonic Lost World is out. It has received a mixed reception. Scoring 5/10's from some reviewers, and 9/10's from others. The Wii U version holds a Metacritic score of 63, wheras the 3DS version holds a Metacritic score of 61. What would you like to see for the next Sonic game? I would personally like to see the parkour gameplay return, but sped up, and for "grounded" regular level design to return, more creative level tropes, and tougher bosses. I think the parkour gameplay has a lot of potential. I would also like to see other characters playable, but that might be pushing it as SEGA seems to just want Sonic as the only playable character right now.
  12. Critic reviews for Sonic Lost World are out. It looks like it's not doing so well. Mixed reception. Metacritic Database IGN: 5.8/10 Gamespot: 5/10 Gamesradar: 4/5 Eurogamer: 4/10 Joystiq: 2.5/5 Gametrailers: 7.6/10
  13. Keep all discussion on spoilers for Sonic Lost World in this thread. There is no need to use spoiler tags in this thread. Footage of the first half hour of Sonic Lost World has been leaked onto the internet. You may watch it here:
  14. One thing I've enjoyed in the Sonic community is their ability to make fun of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise itself. There's tons of hilarious videos made by fans everywhere that parody the blue hedgehog's adventures and his friends. I've made this topic to celebrate those videos, so we can laugh and discuss and all that jazz. HOWEVER, WE ARE AVOIDING POST-AND-RUN SCENARIOS HERE, SO HERE'S THE RULES EVERYBODY: You must post a video. To embed videos, hit the SpecialBBCode button (it's two buttons above the Underline button) then select media and paste the video URL into the URL box, then hit OK. You must discuss the person who made the video. Did they make other Sonic/SEGA videos that you know? If so, how are they with making Sonic videos? Do they animate videos, edit clips, etc.? If you don't know the videomaker well, are you interested to see what else they made? YOU MUST COMMENT ON THE VIDEO AND WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF IT. This is MANDATORY. Discuss in short what's going on (you don't have to spoil the punchline), and what you liked in the video. Is there anything you'd like to see different? What's you favorite moment in the video? REMEMBER: IF YOU JUST POST A VIDEO, IT WILL BE ASKED TO BE TAKEN DOWN. We're here to celebrate the hilarity of Sonic, and recognize some awesome videos out there. So remember the rules and have fun!
  15. We have discussed how well Sonic Adventure holds up, and now we are moving onto discussing how well the sequel holds up. Sonic Adventure 2 is the sequel to Sonic's first big 3D title Sonic Adventure. It was released in 2001 for the SEGA Dreamcast, which was shortly later put to rest. It's currently most well received 3D Sonic game on Metacritic, and the second most well received Sonic game overall on Metacritic. A year later an updated version was released for the Gamecube which introduced some new features while at the same time introducing new problems. The updated version was met with a decent reception. It went onto being a best seller for the Gamecube. In 2012 the game was ported to HD systems, but introduced even more new problems. The sound often glitches, and the controls are overly sensitive and twitchy in this version. Overall it seems that it wasn't optimized correctly for the HD systems. The 2012 port was met with a mixed reception, but was in the digital charts for many months regardless. Sonic Adventure 2 is 11 years old. How well do you think it holds up today? I personally believe it holds up pretty well. Graphically it still looks good. Gameplay-wise it's still enjoyable despite the genre roulette in story mode. Level design isn't as open as in the first Sonic Adventure title, but it's still fun regardless. There's some issues with the controls at times, but I find them to work well enough for the most part. Keep in mind I'm talking about the original version of the game, which has less technical issues than the rereleases. Story-wise, it's still entertaining and enhances the overall experience. I find myself going back to the game a few times per month. I'm aware of the fanbase recently having a more negative outlook on the game, but it's still one of my favourite Sonic titles regardless. I'd like to hear your opinion on the subject.
  16. It has almost been an entire decade since Sonic Heroes was first released. At release it received pretty good scores from critics, mostly receiving 8/10's. I believe it sold quite well too, which was most likely due to all the Sonic X hype at the time, and the game being Sonic's first major multi-platform release. Now that almost a decade has passed, what's your thoughts on Sonic Heroes? I've played it to death so it's kinda boring to me at this point, but I still appreciate it for what it is. It's the first Sonic game I played. It's what got me into the series. The levels drag out for a bit too long, and it can get repetitive at times, but I still think it's a decent game overall despite its flaws. I believe it has aged decently as well. It still looks and feels pretty good on my computer. The console versions probably haven't aged as well though.
  17. Sonic Adventure was Sonic's big step into 3D. It was released in 1998, at the time receiving critical acclaim and selling millions. In 2003 an updated version was released which introduced more new problems than it fixed. It was met with a mixed reception. It sold pretty well regardless. Sonic Adventure is 14 years old. It has had numerous ports and rereleases. How well do you think it holds up today? I personally believe it has aged decently. Not great, but not bad either. Graphically it still looks pretty good. Gameplay-wise however, its flaws are a lot more apparent than they used to be. The controls are quite twitchy. The game has a good idea of how Sonic should control in 3D, but I do not believe they pulled it off too well. Story-wise, it's still good in my eyes. I still find myself going back to the game a couple of times per year. I'd like to hear your opinion on the subject.
  18. Sonic Time Attacked is a fan game created by Jamie Bailey. It was released almost an entire decade ago. It used advanced movement methods for its time. It's known by many to be one of the best Sonic fan games released. The game is about Eggman making an attack on time in attempt to change Sonic's past victories, and he succeeds. Sonic's mission is to set things right. It plays pretty decently. There's a couple bugs here and there, but most are very minor. It's a good time waster. I recommend checking it out. You can download it by clicking here. What do you think of this fan game?
  19. What's the most memorable Sonic game to you, and why? I'd have to go with Sonic Heroes. It's the first Sonic game I've ever played. I came across a PC demo for the game and had to try it out. I really enjoyed it at the time. Then a few months later I picked up the full version, which then got me into checking out the other titles in the series. I have a lot of good memories of playing the game too. Something I can't say I've had a lot of with the other Sonic games in the series. It's not my favourite Sonic game, but I'd have to say it is the most memorable experience I've had with a Sonic game so far.
