I guess trying to be organized makes me stupid then.

The problem with a topic on it is that it's forced in to people's view. E.g. every update will force people to see it as the top topic when no one cares. Also causes posts to be cut up by other's posts.

With a blog, only people who want to see it, will go to it (so it doesn't clog up the board) AND there's no junk in between blog posts.

It's just a different form of update. In the same way I don't put my status updates in their own topic.

Yes, it does. This is not "being organized". It's being a "spammer" of content that not even everyone may actually be interested in it. But for those who are, this is even better than a blog, this way, when there was an update people will be able to see it and read/watch/listen to it.
