  1. I don't think creativity needs to be 100% 'inspiration-free'. Also I wouldn't exactly divide originality in 'original' and 'unoriginal'. The first one is a redundant term, and the second one is contradictory. Being 100% original in whatever you work on isn't a ticket to success, anyway. I'd like you to check out the 'Everything is a Remix' videos from Kirby Ferguson - it's more centered in music, but it can apply in this case too. As for Ferguson's video: For example, Hideki Naganuma's music tends to sample TONS of songs, but the songs themselves are all original in the end. Naganuma's style is distinct, and I can know when I'm hearing a Naganuma song. Nakagawa tried replicating the style in Rush Adventure, and while the soundtrack is good, it's not Naganuma's. Hideki served as an inspiration for RA's soundtrack, but in the end said soundtrack is also original in its own way. The Windmill Village songs and zones such as the coral cave and Pirate Island strike me as the ones that stand out the most. Saying that putting in a loop is straight out plagiarism is just exaggerated. Plagiarism means copying works in their entirety, and normally I'd apply it more for professional works such as a logo or painting. If we're going to call things plagiarisms, then Sonic 1's special stage is a plagiarism of Cameltry (well, in this case it pretty much is...) In short, my opinion is that you're going too far in trying to distinguish several subtypes of this matter. For me, it's simple: If a game's presentation and flow works in an interesting way that I appreciate, I judge it as a well inspired piece of work. Games that are blatantly cashing in on whatever's popular are extremely easy to identify, case in point: All the goddamn fucking flappy bird clones and then all the Threes! clones in mobile stores. If there's one place that is 1% originality and 99% plagiarism, that's the goddamn App Store/Play Store.
  2. The $100 version works. The only difference between Standard and Developer is: 1)Dev allows you to sell applications and games without sticking a 'Powered by Fusion" logo on your application/game. With the $100 version you need to do this for commercial projects. Free projects don't need this. 2)Dev has a few extra extensions that you will probably never use. But yeah, you need MMF2 Standard or CF2.5 Standard at least. The Games Factory or CF2.5 Free Edition do not support Worlds. If you're really willing to work with this, go ahead and buy CF, it's pretty easy to work with. Later on, I think it would be handy to have a version of Worlds that takes out extra details and extensions so that people with the CF demo can have a look at it and decide if they are willing to shell out for CF and develop a game using Worlds. It'd be a nice side-goal to work with before the next release.
  3. I didn't do anything. This seems to be a template edit... but not mine.
  4. You can change the thread title by going to your introductory post (ergo, the first), and editing the thread title in there. Use the edit button and go to 'Full Editor'... there you should be able to edit it.
  5. Now I want to go play When Tails Gets Bored again. I might try out making a special stage design... I'm tired of the constant recycling of the S2 halfpipe model.
  6. Yeah, I that feature that monitors files you DL from the web and asks if you want to run applications. Not a fan of it, loonax FTW. CT needs to revise their memory handling a bit, I guess. Although even that wasn't enough to stop a guy from accessing unused frames in one of Lake's games. On the other hand, I think the Windows 8 warnings are because the applications are not signed with the W8 store type keys, so anything that isn't from a major company such as Norton, Nero, AVG, etc would still pop up the message. Remember that W8 is steps away from enforcing a closed garden app store model...
  7. MMF2 applications tend to give false positives because of the way they handle their own memory. Get rid of that Norton POS.
  8. Why don't you try the demo? If it's to your liking, then get it. If you don't like Steam you can wait until the DRM free version comes out.
  9. Worlds needs certain extensions in order to be correctly loaded in CF. To get these extensions, you need a full valid installation, the demo version doesn't work with them.
  10. Better safe than sorry, at least you didn't end up giving one extra hour in the ball pit as an apology. I still can't believe how utterly ridiculous that 'Dashcon' was. It's still hilarious There's always a next time!
  11. I've heard Comcast is the devil incarnate at this point, so... there's your problem. Man, internet speeds might not be Sanic fast here, but at least I have no stupid data caps. |3
  12. Well, that helps. Grab the whole CF directory from your good installation and copy it replacing the bad one.
  13. Sonic Rush is sample incarnate - that's why it's so awesome. As for the Haunted Ship sample, I had it somewhere but YT accounts have been killed... So I had to hunt it down. Here ya go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTJTDrcEveQ#t=51 EDIT: Y'know what, here's something... http://www.whosampled.com/song-tag/Sonic%20the%20Hedgehog/samples/ Go wild. <3
  14. Indeed, get Strife back in here... It's been a pretty long time since I see him around the HQ.
  15. Welcome to the Internet. I'm impressed, but what else can you expect? They're fast. I have nothing remarkable to say about the designs. Considering what we've seen of the game already, I'm not expecting something decent. The animated show might turn out nicely, though.
  16. Marie a shit. I hate how she's being shoehorned into everything - P4GA is basically P4A + extra Marie scenes after credits. I had enough with the first anime, so I'll just wait for the next P3 movie part to come out instead. I'm more hyped for Junpei, the other new guy and Yukari. Oh yeah, by the way: Persona Q release date for NA confirmed to be Nov. 25 - get hype.
  17. Considering the export modules MMF/CF has, that's going to be hard. Android isn't out of the question, though...
  18. Try updating Joystick2. To do so, open CF2.5 without opening your application and in the insert object dialog make sure that you update all your extensions. If you're on MMF2 then you'll need to manually update it. Issues on build happen when there's a version mismatch between the .mfx in the /Extensions and the .mfx in the /Data/Runtime directories. Make sure you properly update the extension by updating both mfx files.
  19. And powered by Sonic Worlds, no less! Carol + motorcycle best girl. I wonder if the Powered By... splash screen is present in the final game, considering the name of the engine... EDIT: Moved thread to Video Game discussion. This is a video game, after all...
  20. Was short on $ back in the Kickstarter, and I'm short right now. I'll have to wait a while and play the latest demo in the meantime. Someone get Strife back in here! EDIT: I thought Available on PC and Steam was kind of weird, but now I remembered that there will be a DRM-less version release later. I'll be getting that one, yay for no Steam.
  21. Not really. I can use all the windows only software I need and open Office 2007+ documents with 100% compatibility. Also, snapshots allow me to easily revert to a working state if something breaks down, no need for a reformat & reinstall Windows scenario. It's also great for trying out new loonax distros. They're easy to set up and manage, and at least for me they come in very handy. It's also important in order to compare how applications work in Wine and Windows. Usually Wine does things better...
  22. MMF2 and CF2.5 work reasonably well in Wine, though... I still prefer to use them inside a virtual machine, but I run the finished applications in Wine directly.
  23. A hundred possible reasons come to mind. Do you use HWA? If so, a driver issue could be the cause.
  24. To be on the safer side, update. If you de-HWA your application, you will lose stuff that relies on it, such as blending effects. I don't think Worlds relies on HWA effects, but I know that the splash screen does (for the blending of graphics in the animation).
