  1. Well, we're getting somewhere. The debugger by default doesn't show details about objects such as actives or extensions, only global data and frames.

If you add objects via 'Add to debugger' you can check their values and other details, so what's probably happening is that some object is being added to the debugger and it updates itself so much that the debugger window can't keep up.

Try opening the debugger again and check any object folder added in there aside from 'Global Values' and 'Global Strings'. Delete any 'Add to debugger' actions for said objects, then see if the problem is gone.

  2. Sega really just doesnt care. Not to mention, they treat their western fans like complete horseshit, so im not really surprised at the amount of indifference to the quality of this game.

    This, it's really sad...

My Sega Collected Works book came in yesterday at last (gonna make a thread later!) and right at the start it says something along the lines of 'The words in this book represent the voices of Sega in the 80s and 90s, and they do not necessarily reflect the Sega of today'. That's right on the spot, today's Sega is a complete train wreck.

Oh, and the book is absolutely gorgeous, you guys should get a copy too!

  3. I still had more fun with Colors. Gens was good too, but I hated the challenge stage padding. At least Colors had 6 acts per zone, not just one modern act and one classic act.

In my opinion Colors was also a bore. Pretty cool environments and music but lacking story and gameplay.

Not that I care much about story in a Sonic game, but Colors had some good writing, and the concept was interesting enough to drive the story forward (Eggman wants to put the past in the past and make a nice interstellar park... with some surprises down the way). I liked snarky Tails and Eggman's quips in the levels. I found it more interesting than 'This weird Chrono Cross final boss ripoff screwed up the timeline, go back to previous levels of your series to fix it or something.'

Oh, and Colors' final boss was great (no Doomsday shit! FINAL COLOR BLASTER!) and the music really pumped me up once it started the main theme remix. Gens' final boss on the other hand SUCKED. I felt like I was playing Persona 3 with a thousand Fuukas instead of just one.

    Please be careful, Mr. Sonic!

    That was a homing shot.

    Watch it, Sonic!

    That shot will track you.

    Be careful, Sonic!

    It's a warping arm---GAH SHUT UP.

But yeah, that boss was a huge chore. And it was just another Doomsday Zone recycle. Gens hooked me right out at the start, but by the end I felt drained.

Back to Boom... I can't say much at this point. Even the music is lackluster... at least 06 had a decent soundtrack. If I'm going to get a Sonic game for the Wii U when I get one, it'll probably be Lost World. At least the update patch kinda helps.

  4. Well, Retro is a wholly different level, they have that 'trial membership' stuff and all that. It's no wonder you didn't get any attention there. I wouldn't say they hate new projects, they just expect a certain level of complexity to them. They specialize more in ROM hacks, anyway.

You have to recognize that recruitment threads are quite frequent nowadays with all the tools and engines available to use. In order to stand out from the rest, something unique is needed. You say you plan on doing a S3&K follow up game, but that doesn't say much. Expand yourself a bit more.

I don't want to come as antagonistic, but here it may end up as the same thing as in Retro.

At the very least, I think showing a bit of your engine could help drive some people around. Just grab some wireframe test level graphics and make something with it.

Another tip: Show some of the ideas you plan on having in your project - gimmicks you thought of, or game mechanics. Even a rough sketch of a spiked mass running fast would do - an image is worth a thousand words.

  5. Right. I see you guys are finding the true sources, but regardless of that, the sounds are still present in the songs shown. Most people just want to know the song where that particular sound comes from (and perhaps listen to it as well), not check which is the exact sampler disc that it was pulled out from.

I see how it makes sense, though. Many songs that WhoSampled shows have extra noise or sounds in the parts that song X supposedly pulls from, and the instances in said song X are clean. I found that odd, sound editing couldn't clean it THAT well.

I can see this being really handy for those who compose music. Getting samples properly without breaking copyrights is important, after all.

I think sites such as WhoSampled should list the actual source (as in the sampler disc) and also the songs where the samples can be found (just like it is right now). That would ensure accuracy.

I suppose it's an user driven site, so correcting information should be easy.
