Just going to need a quick opinion on this one. There are 4 cacti there, two of two different shapes. Which one looks like it'd fit better when it comes to detail?

I'm leaning towards the right one for the small cactus, but I have no idea when it comes to the bigger ones. It seems like one is too simple and the other is too detailed-looking compared to everything else. (This would probably fit better in an art thread, but I don't think only this much is worth one.)

  2. Ummm yea i don't think you can call them thieves just for referring sprites. If you just told him he could have replaced the post or even asked the maker of the sprites for permission. Which you did so there was no need for that last post. >_>

I never called anyone a thief. It's just an expression to say that, while you might not have honor to someone unrelated to you, among your own group you might have. I'm not aware of who has done most of the art in the old games and I doubt they'll be aware of me, so I don't have hesitation when it comes to using their old resources. However, when that someone is very likely to be as we're part of the same community, I think it's better to hold myself back even if the work done isn't owned by him or her anymore.

  3. And that fountain is spewing oil or something? I dunno, when I first saw bad future, I wasn't thinking blood, I was more thinking oil or something. Something needs to fuel those robots.

    ...and-

, I dunno, it sounds fitting.

Oil is usually yellow and petroleum, black. You could also use purple like Oil Ocean. And the pink stuff was called Mega Mack.

But Eggman doesn't use such things. He uses animals and flowers.

From left to right: Sky Sanctuary - Past (VERY EARY, WIP), Present and Future.

I apologize for the lack of content, it's just a one-day work. I still have to figure out palmtrees, flowers and whatever. (And yes, it is completely based on Generations' Sky Sanctuary)

The other two BGs you guys are used to them. It's the original Sonic 3 ones and Nite Shadow's edit.

Past looks fine, but Future is far too gore-y for a Sonic game. A bad future isn't one where everything has been brutally killed. For that fountain, I wouldn't expect Eggman to replace the water with blood or some red liquid. Rather, I'd expect him to replace it with some robotic-looking structure resembling the fountain. You could use Palmtree Panic as an example to see that a proper bad future only needs an "abandoned factory" feel added to it. Hell, just the abandoned feel would already work. You're deviating too much from the general look Sonic CD's bad futures have if that's what you're aiming for.

Done in my free time. It's nothing much as I don't really know what I want to do with it, and I think the only real charm it has is that the only thing there that wasn't done by me is the background. The whole thing was inspired by BlueFrenzy's Underground Base level which is one of my favorites. Still very incomplete, but you can see the kinds of structures I want(ed?) it to have. I got motivated to do this after I listened to

Still, the level is all just blue and red, and I've been struggling to find a good enough color that isn't yellow to give the whole thing a better, lively feel. At least as lively as a final level can get.

I've been thinking of greenish blue or plain gray.

  6. I don't really care about streaming, as the quality compared to the original thing is bad. That said, I'd mention #news for IRC XDCC downloads. Also, Bakabt(private tracker) and Tokyo Toshokan for torrents.

As for favorites and recommendations, Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster, Mushishi, Terra e..., Gankutsuou, Planetes, Kino's Journey, Bartender, ... To be honest, it's not very easy to point out my "absolutely" favorite anime. I prefer to spend my time with manga - Urasawa's works (such as 20th Century Boys), Berserk, Dorohedoro, Aria, Yotsuba&!, Vinland Saga and so on.

  7. Yeah, but that's because your rep hasn't changed much since you achieved that rank in the first place. If you don't like it, you should participate in the concept storm, or just generally do stuff to get rep points.

Not that I don't like it, I just thought it would changed to something else. Also getting rep points isn't something I think it's going to happen, as I don't come here as often as I used to.

  8. Oh my god, awesome work all around. Sonic does look strange though.

Why is it that Sega is completely incapable of giving us what we want? Any other company I can think of knows exactly what its fans want. New Super Mario Bros (Wii and DS), Contra 4. Nintendo and Konami know what it is that fans want, why doesn't Sega.

Because they want to please "everyone". Except pleasing their pocket comes first as it is their main interest, and that obviously means pleasing the new fans because no matter what they produce, it's going to give them money from that fraction. "Old Sonic" fans, the ones that like 2D platforming, aren't a majority. And SEGA doesn't know how to make good choices when it comes to do a Sonic game.

  9. So my idea was to just make a blank 128x128/256x256 Canvas and fill it out with a base colour so a shade of brown or whatever. Then go other it with darker lines, but then what about shading?

You definitely took the right step if you want to do it in a 128x128 form. But if you want to keep your work simple, go with 64x64.

As for shading, You have to think of it tridimensionally. Where does the light hit the most and where does it hit much less?

Sloppily done, but should get the point across. It kind of like how it was done with lava reef, except lava reef had lots of optimization to fit 16x16 tiles.

If you want the rocks to be flat though, just shade around the edges. That's where the curvature is.

I'm really bad when it comes to explain some things, so please excuse me.
