  2. I think it was said in the past that it would be LakeFeperd last fan game. If it's the case, that was one hell of a finale! If not, i hope his future sonic game will continue to utilise that formula instead of straight action.

Yeeeah, I saw on Stadium that he reminded everyone it was his last fan game. Which kinda sucks because his unique yet nostalgic style was pretty epic.

  3. The thing I find with things like SA1, Unleashed and '06 is that the open world is generally kind of surreal.

It's unlike a Sonic game, the places are usually large but empty, they're usually not very 'realistic' and they tend to have this oddly calming but... undefinable music playing behind them. As a result, I don't necessarily love them BECAUSE of the free roam but because of the surreal feeling it creates. Mystic Ruin (goddamn that music) and the Soleanna Forest particularly create that effect. And then finding these little oddities like... piles of rocks with tiny gaps so you can see SOMETHING behind them. It all feels like you're making these freaky discoveries.

The games are poorly built but as it turns out, their poor design is actually their greatest strength. It creates such a weird feeling of unnatural discovery and has this surreal effect which just hits me in a really good way.

  4. A minor problem with the story:

Silver Rings Corp., the company that sells monitors for Sliver Rings, had been around since 101 years into the past. Sonic got warped back 100 years in time, and Silver Ring shops are already present across the map, with branches in Leaf Land, Sky Empire among other places. The set up of all of the shops in the past take place within 1 year.

The corporation then essentially ceases to develop at all for 100 years, using the exact same currency (Real life currency tend to change in appearance at least once within 100 years) and shop design, only adding a few stores in cities within the SCA map and absolutely nowhere else. Even the mechanism used to purchase products were completely unchanged, and neither did the product variety increase.

They're not exactly rules of reality. It's just a series of norms we've developed as the civilization of humanity. Maybe birds living in a floating, technologically advanced city, handle their economy differently.

  5. The ideas that could be the hardest to do would be those that involve (in my opinion) somewhat complex physics, enemy AI or liquid that needs to behave pretty realistic. I'm sure these are possible for a professional development team, but for someone who does it alone, only as a hobby..don't know about that, but you're definitely free to try.

And good luck with that University degree.

Physics in 2D is particularly easy, in my experience (no I don't mean basic Mario-style crap), and it tends to be the field I put a lot of attention on (It's fancy lighting algorithms that tend to throw me!).

I haven't looked through all of your clips yet but yeah, I guess AI would be a problem but again, 2D AI algorithms tend to be pretty simple because movement and detection only needs to be measured in 2 directions.

    And thank you <3

  6. Gawdamn, that's a lot of ideas. You said some of them might me 'impossible' to code. So long as you aren't introducing some crazyass CPU destroying idea (TEN MILLION SONICS ON ONE SCREEN), I don't see how any of these would be too complex to replicate.

I may just be your 'programming genius', my friend (yeah yeah, arrogant, blabla, I'm a programmer, what'd you expect?).

However, I have a University degree blocking me from advancing swiftly, right now.

Fortunately my last Uni project lead me to creating my own little Entity-Component-System architecture (which ended up taking up more of the project work time than the actual focus of the project... damn I can't wait to see what they have to say about that!).

Point being, when I come to my own engine, I should already have an architectural boost by implementing that and be able to go almost straight to trying some of these out.

It is only a matter of time! I shall make sure to archive these demonstrations and pass on anything I create, to you. It would feel wrong to create someone else's idea then just hide it from them...

    Thank you!

  7. Hey, I just looked through some old posts because I remembered at one point, Lake was taking suggestions for the name of Groove Glow... Now, although (as far as I can see), no one suggested that name... it seems one of my own suggestions was "Misty Mine".

Did... did I actually make a contribution to the name of Misty Maze, or is that just a coincidence they both have 'Misty' in the name, and that level had already been made?

Not that it matters, am just curious.

  8. Does anyone know the music in the part where Sonic and Rodolia travel through the dream area to find Gerem and the Princess?

I thiiiink it's "Overthere Stair - Super Paper Mario". I watched what I think is lone's playthrough to remind myself but... the game's music doesn't always sync up with scenes right in the game, I've noticed (not in his video, I mean the game in general).
