  1. I'll be honest and say I dislike it.

The shadow needs to be a lot bigger, and more noticeable.

    Which shadow?

    Avoid dithering.

I guess i can try getting rid of it, although that will probably mean i'l have to abandon a set palette.

The ground looks like rusted pipes with grass growing on top of it. It doesn't look like earth at all. Way too shiny.

I've already started working on that.

The colors chosen for the slope are just ugly and and it doesn't really match with the rest of the ground at all. Putting grass on it would help. And I don't like how you just used the green hill background. It's really easy to see what it was taken from.

Yeah, I wasn't really happy with the ramp's coloring either XD, i just decided to post what i had, after like the 15th time I'd redone it. The GHZ background is only temporary, i just wanted something to go behind the tiles when i put the mockup together.

I'd suggest you start out by mixing and matching and editting backgrounds, then moving on to spriting things from scratch.. Keep trying, and good luck.

I'll just work on this till i get the style down, editing is boring :P

  2. This is the beginings of a custom tileset i've been working on.

    basic tiles

    Quick and dirty mock up.

I plan to use all custom tilesets in my game, since i figured everyone is probably tired of seeing the same ripped stuff over and over; this is the first one i've actually started. Its a huge departure from my normal cell-shaded mario-ish style, so uh, what do you guys think so far?

  3. The problem with that is, i only have a cracked copy of MMF1.5, so I'm stuck with build 105, and that build has a nasty bug in the collision mask condition, which is an essential component in several things i have planned.

Besides, I plan to make my game in MMF2 anyway, so it only made sense to move the engine over as soon as possible.

  4. Just a little update, I spent last night fixing everything that broke when i switched to MMF2, my next order of business will be modifying it to work at 60fps, after that I'll post another build, so that i can be sure any bugs i missed are fixed before i start adding new things.

  5. You're releasing it open source? Awesome. Now I might include Tails in my game.

    Of course I am. I'd be an ass if i didn't :P

Below is a double post that has been automagically merged into the original.

Just got 360 tubes more or less done, and partial Anti-gravity

Below is a double post that has been automagically merged into the original.

Updated first post with new version, includes bug fixes, tubes, and the new movment type for moving platforms.

  6. Okay, I had a little play about and with the power of my awesome photoshop skills came up with this edit:

I like the shade of blue, but it still looks flat compared to the lettering. SoniC++, did you add in the reflective light effect on the lettering youself? If so, could you add it to the Sonic symbol as well, or a variation on it to give it a shiny effect as well? I like what sonic101 did with the shadow too; would it be possible to add a shadow under the main sonic icon? So the final logo would be:

    1) The Sonic Xcel lettering, preferably without the pale border around it but I'm not all that fussed about that

Sure, i can remove the border, but keep in mind it'll have to be a png using alpha transparency, will that be a problem?

    2) The Sonic icon, with all fancy lighting like the lettering and a bit of shadow underneath

    Okay

    3) The black and white scan lines

    Sure thing

    4) The whole thing without a white border, for preference. OR, forget the shadow under the Sonic icon, include the white border and add a shadow to the whole thing. Whichever looks better.

With those changes, I reckon it would look absolutely spectacular.

I agree it'll look a lot better without the border, but again, it'll have to be png with alpha transparency, so as long as thats okay.

  7. Yeah the AI works well, though he runs off screen when trying to find you, also the moving platforms are a bit quick (I put it down to the ai, as I thought you had copied the engine and then pasted it over again (so its 2 engines in one) cause the event for the movement of the platform to be doubled making it faster, but you said that the engine had only 10 extra events)

Also like said before some animations are not perfect but it is WIP so I can't complain about some minor details at this stage.

Oops, i should have made that more clear xD. Your right, the partner AI does use a stripped down copy of the main engine, i just meant it only took 10 to do his AI.

  8. I like the engine, somehow it reminds me of Chaotix because it's quite smooth with half-loops and the decelleration is quite low comparing to other games. But this is not a bad thing at all. It just gives the engine (and the future game) sense of originality.

I also think that you could publish the "character follow" part as a tutorial. It would be nice.

    Thanks :o

About the partner AI, when I'm finished making all the additions to the engine, I'm going to post the unprotected .cca, and probably also a written tutorial detailing how and why the partner AI works (its actually amazingly simple, its only like 10 extra events added onto the main movement XD)

  9. **** me, SoniC++, that was quick! Fantastic job! The black Sonic is awesome, but would you mind doing it in brighter colours, blue/red/yellow, any of those? I'd be interested to see if it looks better; mainly it just looks a little too flat when placed against the shiny lettering. Perhaps bright blue with a border (again, feel free to go nuts, you're the artist :P). Also, could I have the seperate images that made up the title as well? That way I can make each part of the title fly together. I can't thank you enough for doing this, and believe me when I say that enthusistic thanks don't come that easily to me.

Yeah, i wasn't really happy with the dark sonic either, but i was trying not to overpower the lettering... Anyway, Ill play with a few different colors and post them in a little bit so you can choose whichever one you want, and then ill split it up into separate elements for you.
