  1.

Seems that Dimps was lazy on Sonic Advance 3's music part...

All the same musicians, don't see why they can't sample their own stuff, from the same game series, in a game that features an absurd amount of unique tracks for a GBA game.

Nothing to do with Sonic but I thought this was funny:

That cancelled angst game Nobou was composing for

    KC and Jojo

Was only like 10 seconds but I heard it immediately and it stuck

  2. Thinking harder about it, and I know another big reason why I really dont care much for Sonic anymore, to the point of not even buying the games used. Sonic is the type of series that I can play on autopilot. It's gotten boring as of late because I've been playing it as long as I can remember, and it has refused to grow up. This has little to do with the game being good or bad, because I feel the same way for Mario. The entire NSMB series felt boring to me. On the other hand, I adore Galaxy and SM3D world is probably the most fun i've had with a platformer in years.

Of course Sonic isn't this way from lack of trying, and this is why Heroes/Unleashed are the 3D sonic game I respect the most, while Colors/Lost World felt like it was picking on me with the way it was designed. I think most of Sonic's shortcomings are just from a multitude of development problems -- you can point out whats physically wrong with the games all day and night, but the truth is those problems could arise from any deeper issue, and since the shortcomings have been so consistent and so thorough i can only assume it's deep rooted enough in Sega to not change anytime soon.

  3. I was pretty surprised by Altered Memory. It looked very great, especially compared to BlazBlue's animated cutscenes.

Saw one episode and never touched it again. Blazblue is too pretty of a game to be represented by something animated that badly.

And also, it's the kind of story that's saved by being a videogame. I don't think I would have cared about BB's storyline if it wasn't for all the great supplemental joke stuff that strengthened it.

  4. Nintendo consoles are shit without 1st party nintendo games. There is literally no reason to own one, why would you punish yourself otherwise

3DS is the same way, except it's always been winning because its price point is more effective a seller than it actually being worthwhile technology. I'm a bit salty that the Vita is being dominated so horrifically by the 3DS, since it's an infinitely better device. But oh well

I was going to get a 3DS, if only for Smash. But now the wii-u version is out, and nobody plays it anymore.

  5. Guilty Gear Xrd -- most amazing cel shading i've ever seen, holy shit this game is pretty as fuck

Destiny -- Pretty fun, probably not going to buy the expansion, but the game is solid. Don't yet see why people have been bitching about it, but like any MMO im sure i'll find out eventually.

FFXIV -- Still fun, upgraded to PS4 from PS3, feels like a completely different game

  6. ...Wow. The hatred, vitriol and overall negativity here is astounding. I can see that this was the wrong place to ask for an opinion on this subject.

It comes with being a fan, and it's a byproduct of past love. I attribute it to why long running game franchises tend to have such extreme splits. Either way, this forum is the last place you can expect to get bonfire happy huddles.

Honestly, I'm beginning to think that maybe the haters are right and that Sonic isn't worth supporting anymore, that he'll never be respected again, and that it's time to give up.

People have been feeling this way since the Dreamcast...and a group breaks off with every entry forward. But there's only so long one can hold out on faith for a "next time" where they "get it right".

  7. The CClassic engine worked perfectly, but was horrifically optimized. My current game project used it as a base, but other than the fact i long since lost use for 360 angle detection, I had to completely rewrite the engine from scratch. Streak built the whole engine using Functions, which does the job, but caused some serious issues because of how function priority is handled in CC.

CClassic is stupid buggy, but it's free, and is probably the most powerful game creator of its type available right now, lightyears ahead of MMF2 and likely game maker as well.

As for the C2 build...I took a look at it, the interface is nearly identical to CC, but the engine just refuses to work correctly. Even if there was some miniscule error in its code, there's really nothing that would cause it to behave the way it does, so i can only guess it's a processing bottleneck that can't really be worked around. The failure of this engine to work is actually the reason i'm still using CC.

  8. I'm not. At least, I haven't been for years. I'm a fan of good videogames. And if Sonic has taught me anything in the last few years, it's that a cast of characters does not make a good game.

But no, i'm no longer an actual sonic fan. There isn't a single old IP that Sega still develops for that they haven't completely ruined for me, including Sonic. In fact, I think one of the best things that could happen to Sonic is for Sega to disappear and for some other company that doesn't suck to inherit their IPs.

People keep begging for Sega to bring back their old IPs, but when has that ever worked out? Sonic never works, Nights sucked, and Phantasy Star isn't even remotely recognizable anymore. I cringe when i try to imagine what they would do if they pushed a Jet Set Radio 3. So yeah, i'm pretty much an anti-fan at this point.

  9. It's pretty dope man. The new Zelda is looking amazing, but if they can produce an equally good looking Metroid game (no Zebes warriors or Other M type shit) then I may actually consider it.

Of course, those would be the only games to look forward to on the console, but hey. At that point it wouldn't mind.

  10. I want to smash with someone.

    giggity

I've been playing it since it came out. Locally of course, I don't have a Wii-U of my own. But nobody even really bothers with the 3DS version anymore, it almost feels like a demo now in comparison. Went to a local tournament in Georgia yesterday, the biggest use the 3DS version got was a makeshift controller for the WiiU version for 8 player.

    IN OTHER NEWS

A stroke of genius was shown in regards to the functionality of the Wii-U TWICE yesterday.

    1) Before we went to the tournament, we set up some practice runs at a friends house, but didn't have an HD TV to plug the HDMI cable in. We used a PC monitor instead...but of course we had no speakers. I had the idea of just setting the Wii-U remote close by. Couldn't tell the difference.

    2) At the tournament, a few people brought their WiiU's but after a while we had to give up a few of the TVs to host the SF4 and Marvel tournament streams. Someone got the bright idea to just plug the Wii into the wall, and set the controller down. We got a few chairs and used the WiiU-mote for 1v1 casuals.

Everyone who passed by, me included, mentioned how it awesome it was that nobody even realized it was possible. The Wii-U is literally a portable gaming system.
