  1. 12 Days, cool. I don't think I can anything out but if I can make a little level to jump n' shoot man, could I submit? It's less of an actual game and more a demonstration of what else I can make is why I'm asking.

I'm getting back into the groove of stuff, recently. So this would be a good inspiration to do more.

    Sure thing!

Anyway, Just slightly more than a day left before NCFC2014 starts, folks! Hope everyone who's wanting to participate is ready!

  2. Normally it's when the event starts, which this year is set for November 3rd (check the countdown on the site!).

I may allow late booth entries though, especially since this year Sagexpo Act 2 seems fairly liberal in regard to that sorta thing.

  3. Plom, if there's tech

Just registered a booth of my game. I'm gonna have the screenshots and a download link to my entry as soon as I finish up some stuff in the next build. For some reason my main booth content doesn't save, but I'm copy & pasting the info from my game's readme file.

If there are tech issues I will report it to Emperor ASAP. I'll run a few tests myself in the meantime.

So for workshop is that where you just expose your works like drawings, sprites, musics and such? I might like that. Maybe next time this comes round I can even submit a nintendo themed game just to stray away from sonic :) Sounds like a bunch of fun though and hopefully it stays around for the next time I'm ready to submit game content.

Art and music seem fine and were subjects in previous workshops.

  4. Bump! Registrations are OPEN!

    http://www.nintendocfc.com

If you're a newbie to this, here are the steps to setting up a booth:

    1) Set up an NCFC account by registering on the forum.

    2) Once you do, the main page should have a new option called "registrations". From there, you can choose to set up a "Booth" or a "Workshop". These basically are as you'd expect if you're already familiar with SAGExpo, so choose what you'd want to do.

    3) You can either have a preconstructed booth build or link the booth to your own HTML page. Likewise, you can either upload your entry to the site (Be wary of the filesize limits!) or use an external filehost to keep your entry.

    4) Workshops can be done on either the IRC chatroom or the Livestream.

    5) If you feel your entry does not fit one of the predefined categories, please contact me about it.

  5. Soo this is like a sage for nintendo fan games? Sounds interesting. I dont think I have anything to submit, unless sonic fan games count. Its like to have a look at this though.

Sonic games have been welcomed in the past. It's just that no one from the Sonic fangame community itself has submitted any, so it's been isolated to a few entries from the Mario fangame community like Sonic Hexacide.

Mega Man games have also been a regular staple. Really, NCFC would take practically anything. There's even an "indie" category introduced last year for anyone who wants to work with original characters.

Sounds like fun, I remember participating in this 2 years ago. I have one question though, when will the event start this year? If I know the date, I know if I should hurry or take my time to release demo 5 for Super Mario & The Elemental Orbs.

Since we're starting to close in on the design of the layout graphics, I think I'll be safe saying I'm aiming for the week of November 3rd. It will start no earlier than that, and will not be delayed any more than a week from that regardless of the circumstances.

  6. Hey folks. I assume for most of you it's been a long time since you heard of anything from NCFC. (Well, technically there was that NCFC Sonic Hexacide game I played back at SAGE Act I, but yeah....)

NCFC is an annual fangame event held in the fall season that lasts for 5 days, is themed around Nintendo, and will let both fangame projects and ROM hacks in. It's URL is here:
    http://www.nintendocfc.com/

I don't exactly know if you all have any pre-conceived opinions of the event, but whatever they may be, please take note that it may radically shift this year.
You see, much of the old blood behind the NCFC staffing have either retired or gone AWOL, and only Emperor (Web developer, basically retiring) and I (normally Livestream moderator) are left with any regular contact. Henceforth, I was put in the role of appointing new staff for this year's NCFC. In a sense, this makes me the head of NCFC this year.

... that may not make much a difference, honestly, but still!

I posted this thread to gauge interest in the event. Staff positions are still open, but I got a few trustworthy people with me now and we're closing in on being ready to announce an opening date. When that day comes, registrations will be open. I would suggest the notable projects from this year's two SAGExpo events may appreciate the chance to expose themselves to a new audience.

Registration will be open soon, and I'll be quick to let you guys know when it's ready if interest is high enough.

Feel free to use this thread to ask questions or to discuss any other details. Livestream and radio content are still pretty up in the air, although I hope to be able to continue my livestreaming stuff much like last year.

  7. I decided to make this thread in the case of anyone's interest in the logs of the SAGExpo livestream. I've attempted to obtain as many things as possible from the Hitbox logging process.

The current playlist of logs is available here. It includes whatever I could pull from the Hitbox logs, as well as Instant's own upload of this SAGExpo's Dramatic Fanfic Reading:
    https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRQaXZ6unwMzTFGwSWS3iHAARwtH2lcvo

Most of my logs, InstantSonic's logs, Bluecore's logs, and others are readily accessible sans issues with ContentID. (There is one log of mine in particular I am avoiding uploading to YouTube due to a ContentID issue I'd rather avoid.)
There are just a token few that for whatever reason are on hitbox but unable to be pushed to YouTube.

There are other people who for whatever reason have had their livestreams fail to log, including the ever-so-frequent streamers Bartman3010 and NeoHazard and ila's contest announcements. FruitCake has said that he was recording what he could of those. I would like to give him big props for that and hope those logs will be ready soon.

Feel free to use this thread to ask any questions about the logs or the livestreams.

  8. Most likely non-fan game stuff too, depending on if everyone's burned out already or not. It's not fun seeing the same thing on the stream over and over again. Thinking about trying to mic myself up, but we'll see.

Still reeling that my account works here after ~4 years.

On the note of having "different" things on the stream, I have a few proposals, but...

    1) One of them is really cynical - it's the 20th Anniversary of the triple-decker of the US Sega Pico and US 32x, both bombed Sega platforms, and the Japanese Sega Saturn, which while a bit brighter is foreboding of the even more disasterous US Sega Saturn. I've made a slew of short YouTube videos essentially taking the chance to potshot anything I've felt Sega did "wrong" at that point, ranging from well-established to things people don't normally think about. Considering the title is "20th Anniversary FAIL", they can be very snarky and crude. Still, I think it'd be a good idea if we could set a time (probably late-night so it can be uncensored) specially for letting out all our anguish at the ways Sega failed us. I don't have a clear idea what it'd consist of - most likely it'd be very user-participation oriented with people telling their own "Sega Fail" perspectives, and I'd have a few of my Youtube vids play in the meanwhile (or maybe if requested, I could play Sega Pico and Sega 32X games). I would like some user input on this if possible (but I'd rather NOT dial down the cynical snark factor, since I feel like it's been getting difficult to vent at Sega publicly in Sonic fan communities as more and more of the people who were Sega's critics have become people directly or indirectly under Sega's payroll.)

    2) Maybe we could air the Neptunia anime (lol Console Wars. World War Blue was an amusing diversion last time.) but we actually got lucky with how much anime we managed last SAGE without Twitch admins causing us trouble. REMEMBER: Twitch has a blanket non-video-game-content ban, so we'd need to tread carefully there.

  9. Hey folks, Overbound was talking to me a few days back and it gave me a note to pop in here. Here's hoping I can do the livestreaming bits better than before. I have a few vague ideas for Livestreams besides fangaming content. If anyone'd like to discuss them with me, I'll be around. :)

  10. I'd give up on the idea of it happening in September at this point. At least, not unless it's another Mr. T SAGE. Notice is too short, and it's quite apparent from the responses here that many would not be able to prepare their games for that point, nevermind booths.

Even early October would probably be pushing it. Late October's the earliest I'd be expecting it, since it'd give people on the forum a good month from today to prepare.

  11. Yeah y'know what? Christmas or even Halloween themed SAGE might be cool.

If it's too close to the late Oct-Mid Nov. time period I may not even be able to participate due to the schedule conflicts, so at this rate I'd prefer Christmas, myself.

  12. Hey folks. Saw the thread. Letting people know I'm kinda alive.

I'm hoping SAGE this year doesn't cause any schedule conflicts in relation to FEE3 or NCFC, both of which I also plan to attend (As I was requested for FEE3 and handled things on NCFC for 2 years previously.)

  13. Huh, guess I'll need to try /DIB on 1.1 now.

I hope the extra health items don't tone down the difficulty of the game too much. I like hearing the option to kick the boulders, since I kept -repeatedly- trying to do that in the last demo which got me killed. I guess it just felt like something that should have been there in the first place.

  14. For those of you who are getting screen flicker problems, try one of the following command line functions and see if they fix it:

/DIB => forces standard graphic mode

/DIB3 => forces standard graphic mode, 256 colors

/DIB4 => forces standard graphic mode, 16 millions of colors, 24 bits

/DIB6 => forces standard graphic mode, 32768 colors

/DIB7 => forces standard graphic mode, 65536 colors

/DIB8 => forces standard graphic mode, 16 millions of colors, 32 bits

    /DDRAW => forces DirectDraw + VRAM mode

/NOVR => no VRAM in DirectDraw mode

(To use these, create a shortcut for the game in Windows and go to Properties, then in the Target field, add them after the quotation marks.)

/DIB fixed my issues with Freedom Planet (although I think it breaks something in Sonic Fusion, because I got immediately disconnected from a match trying to play with it).

You wouldn't mind supplying a .bat for this sort of thing down the line, no?

  15. I can't play it. On startup, screen starts flickering. All MMF2 games hate my machine ;__;.

I've had the same issue on both Freedom Planet and Sonic Fusion. I googled it and this turned up.

It appears MMF2 has a compatibility issue with current NVidia drivers. I'd try downgrading myself, but, well, that'd be quite the pain.

(EDIT: Also hi. Haven't been here in a while, huh?)
