  1. The way I see it, this has been blown out of proportion. Those fans of Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comics are too hardcore and too extreme in their emotional outburst.

You obviously weren't around any Spider-Man fans during the One More Day fiasco.

Anyway, I'm gonna stop posting in this thread as the amount and anti-Archie/comics is making me incredibly depressed.

  2. See, I had the exact opposite reaction to the treatment of Sonic here. I thought the game was an interesting character study of him, showing that his brashness and ego can sometimes make a situation worse. I think it fits his character perfectly that he just jumps in and acts before thinking, he is about speed after all. I really enjoyed all of the character stuff in the game, apart from Tails basically being a damsel in distress.

  3. I've written a full review of the 3DS version for RetroCollect, if anyone is interested.

I agree with what some have said about the final boss, he was a bit of a let down. But then I've found that in several of the past Sonic games. I usually have more trouble with the mid-game bosses.

Now I've finished the game I've gone back and am trying to get all the Chaos Emeralds and Red Rings (do they actualyl do anything or are they just to collect). I still enjoy playing through the majority of the levels, although some are slowly building in annoyance (any that have that stupid makes-you-move-slow grass. Ugh).

I still feel it's a solid Sonic game. I just hope any future titles aren't Nintendo exclusive.

P.S. Anyone trying to beat all the levels in Hard mode?

  4. I think the negativity comes strictly from being on Nintendo. Like 95% of it. The other 5% comes from the writers and amy's voice.

Interesting you say that because my least favourite parts of the game all relate to the Nintendo-y bits; the special stages, moving some of the Wisps via the 3DS's gyro controls. Seriously, do THAT many people love motion control that we can't have at least the option to just use the face buttons?

  5. I know what you mean about that one jet, but apart from that - and it doesn't happen every time - I can't think of any "unfair" elements in the game. Generations, at least on PC, has it's issues as well; sometimes the controls don't respond, things can be missed if you don't react at the exact right moment, and so on. However, I feel that those instances are very small when compared to the overall quality of the game which, IMHO, is the best Sonic game since S3&K.

I feel similarly about Generations DS. It has it's faults but I think it's the best handheld Sonic game in some time, probabley since Advande, albeit it's been a while since I played the Rush games. But I'm with you in regards to Colours DS, Pharaoh, it is rather meh.

  6. Yeah, I a gotta agree with Abominal, I've not found the game cheap, just it challenges your platforming skills. But then I DO find Mario games cheap (really don't like the series) so maybe I don't know what I'm on about.

I have unlocked a few new missions, but the reasons seem to be random, so I'm not really sure what one has to do within the game to unlock missions

  7. When I bought my 3DS about two months ago the first game I bought (got it when I got the console) was Sonic Generations. Although I'd already sunk 34 hours into the PC version of the game, I still wanted to get it on 3DS.

Now, I'd heard from some people and read on-line that Generations 3DS wasn't all that great. However, I'm finding quite a lot of fun and have sunk about 12 hours into it thus far. While I admit that it's not as good as the "main" version of Generations, I do thing it's a quality game. Yes, there are some faults - it's very easy, the levels are quite short (blew through the whole game in a day), the Special Stage control feels a bit off at times and I HATE that you have to unlock missions with play coins - but the actual gameplay, the important stuff of racing through the levels and collecting rings, remains brilliant fun, even if it is a little "hold right to win" at times.

I know some people have an issue with Dimps, but I don't think their games are as horrible as some people like to make out. But what are others thoughts on this? Do you think Generations 3DS is a quality game?

  8. For me it's Sonic 3 & Knuckles. There is just SO much I love about this game. It looks beautiful, the story is brilliant and works well even today. Being able to play the game as Sonic one way then have a very different experience with Knuckles is great. It introduced speed runs.

But most of all it's the sheer scope of the thing. It's just amazing. And the character that is present in the character sprites is wonderful. I never forget Knuckles laughing at me or Mecha Sonic jumping onto the Master Emerald to power himself back up.

I feel it's by far the best of the main trilogy and, obviously, the best Sonic game yet. It's very closely followed by Generations, though.

  9. I love, love, LOVE the Archie series. It's a BIG part of what got me back into Sonic a few years ago. I thought the recent Worlds Collide crossover was wonderful, much better than the event books Marvel and DC have done for the last little while. The series really does deliver more than what you'd expect from the standard "based on a video game" concept. The characters, culture and world are developed really well, the writing is tight and the art, for the most part, is really good.

I'd like to know what it is you don't like about it, Pharaoh Shadon, but from what you said it sounds like you've only read it before Ian Flynn came on board as writer (the reboot you mention. It wasn't really a reboot, but that's another story). I've been getting the Archives collections and some of that early stuff is REALLY hard to get through -really juvenile humour with terrible puns - by Flynn has done an amazing job!

Archie's Sonic is easily in my top 5 comic series at the moment (and I read a lot!) and it's easily one of the best all-ages titles out there.
