  1. I'm a -huge- fan of Kill la Kill. Like my love for it is so insane. Everything from the designs to the pacing to just the general over the top action sequences screams stuff I'd make, only they got to it first haha!

There is a trend in the anime I like and that is that they are usually over the top, kinda nonsensical, but still very much fun. Dynamic poses and art styles too really appeal to me. That is why a lot of my favourites come from Gainax/Trigger and in particular I'm a really big fan of Hiroyuki Imaishi. I absolutely adore things like Diebuster, FLCL, Gurren Lagann, Panty and Stocking, that first episode of Re:Cutie Honey that Imaishi had a huge hand in etc. Dead Leaves is one of my favourite short films and is a HUGE inspiration to my artwork, if you haven't seen it I urge you guys to check it out. It's only 50 minutes and its almost straight action all the way through - it's balls to the wall awesome.

Little Witch Academia is fantastic as well. The blu ray set for that is absolutely gorgeous and even came with an art book. Redline is another favourite movie of mine, directed by Takeshi Koike. It is phenomenal with some of the most incredible art I've seen in a feature film. It blows me away every time I see it knowing that it is all 2D and no 3D stuff at all.

Then I like other stuff like Trigun, Hellsing Ultimate, Birdy The Mighty: Decode etc.

I'm pretty particular with what anime I watch but I do enjoy the stuff I really like a lot.

  2. S0LV0 got to this before I could, I only recently got home from work.

Anyway... I know exactly what it is like to have personal projects be critiqued by other people, it sometimes can feel like an attack on you or as if the people are trying to really tear your work down.  But I don't think that anyone here is intentionally trying to tear you or your project down Dee. For the most part SFGHQ is a pretty chill community of people who only want to see each other flourish on whatever it is they are working on. Sure, we have our bad days just like everywhere else (some spots seem to be still sore), but overall I think we all have the best in mind for each other here.

People here are more or less trying to tell you not to get too ahead of yourself on what you are doing.  They aren't saying these things you are posting are bad, far from it - the sprites seem quite swell dude! Take a breather and relax and if its something you don't agree with that is totally your prerogative and you can pass it off if you feel it isn't helping. However please tone down the hostility because threatening others about who they are messing with and telling everyone to fuck off isn't going to help you much in the long run and will need to be dealt with warnings/strikes. This is just a heads up from me to not do it again please. People are only replying in here because they care about the project and want to see it do well :). The thing is too - critics are not always right. But some of these people have released completed projects and are only offering you maybe things they have learned from their own experiences.

As for everyone else - I won't say the name of the member who used the report feature in the event that other people get mad, but you know who you are and I thank you for utilizing it :D. At the same time please guys don't try and mod each other when the mods aren't around. It just leads to more drama in a lot of cases like "who are you to tell me what to do". The report feature is a valuable tool for us to see if/when something is getting out of hand and we can deal with it without anyone having to add more flames to the fire so to speak. Feel free to hash things out among each other too, we're not babies here, but when things get rough just use the report button to let us know :)

  3. For just 24 hours I am keeping this set online. After that this will be taken down until the album is done. This is a good idea of what to expect from the final album (granted it will sound better). I am getting closer and closer to finishing it.

It is my biggest musical endeavour to date and I have been putting a lot of love into making it. There will also be artwork for each track after I do the final mixes once all songs are finished being composed/recorded.

  4. This, it's really sad...

My Sega Collected Works book came in yesterday at last (gonna make a thread later!) and right at the start it says something along the lines of 'The words in this book represent the voices of Sega in the 80s and 90s, and they do not necessarily reflect the Sega of today'. That's right on the spot, today's Sega is a complete train wreck.

Oh, and the book is absolutely gorgeous, you guys should get a copy too!

Oh yeah, I want that book :o

  5. Hahaha yeah I feel so bad for loving all the bad reviews this thing is getting, means my dislike was highly justified!

I don't really know what I feel about this franchise anymore. All I want is a back to basics approach to game making, keep it simple. Not saying to go "back to the roots" but just play on what used to be the series identity and strengths and start from there. Sonic is a blue hedgehog who goes fast, rolls up into a ball, and bounces on enemies. Maybe the underlying problem is that a game like Sonic is over so quickly and those types of games don't really hold up anymore unless you put it on mobile (which honestly sucks that it has to be that way) so they keep trying to reinvent the wheel to make it longer and it just falls apart. I think the damage to the franchise that has been done by this point too is pretty bad that they haven't any idea how to make Sonic relevant anymore. Granted - Sonic Team was on the right track with a few fairly well received games and then they go ahead and release this garbage... They should just forego any of those types of politics/money issues and just make a really good game. I don't care if its a 7 or 8 zone game with 2 acts and a boss on each one, I've played Sonic 3 and Knuckles hundreds of times by this point and keep going back to it. That's really all I want haha.

All the franchises I used to love are either MIA in today's gaming scene but still pop up once in a while in the form of merch to let you know they still exist (Mega Man), or have gotten really bad. Maybe it just has to be that way though, other forms of media don't tend to last 60+ entries (comic books being an anomaly but that's a whole other can of worms there). I kinda just want brand new icons to start taking over and paving the way.

Okay, not trying to be a total smartass but I guess I kind of am.

You'll need to know Japanese if you want to work at Sonic Team, there is no longer (to my knowledge) a US branch of it anymore. There is a careers page at SEGA's US webpage as well but again...no Sonic Team USA anymore. Anyway I am going to be locking this thread because it has very little discussion value.
