New 2D Sonic Titles Confirmed to be in Development

A fan has reached out to Morio Kishimoto asking whether there will be another collaboration with Dimps in future with the key art for Sonic 4: Episode I and Sonic 4: Episode II included in their tweet. Morio Kishimoto responded stating there are side-scrolling Sonic games to look forward to.

These are Sonic games made by Dimps. In addition to 3D Sonic games, there are also side-scrolling Sonic games, so please look forward to them!

One of our reliable sources informed us a new 2D Sonic title featuring the modern cast had been shelved in 2021. No reason had been specified at the time. We have since received reason to believe this title may have been picked up again after being shelved and is likely one of the titles being referred to.
