Sonic XG

Sonic XG has been in the works for many years. It was originally a standalone game, then merged with Sonic Nexus and Retro Sonic, and now back to a standalone game.

 

 

Sonic XG stands for Sonic Extended Genesis. It's a fan sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The gameplay is similar to that of the classics, but adds a few new gimmicks here and there. It's one of my favourite fan games, and I look forward to the upcoming new version of the game.

It was okay. Sonic slides too much for my liking, though. The "Game Over Yeah!" theme was unexpected.

Glad to see that the project wasn't pushed aside. I really want to see how the finished product will be. My first play-through of this game was just so surprising. Can't wait for what's in store.

An almost decade old special stages demo build has been discovered. From back when the game was known as Sonic Forever.

It didn't really merge with retro sonic, it was an engine on its own and the main reason its standalone now is because taxman is engine is used by sega and his remakes. But I wonder what will become of Nexus?

Is there a special program needed to play the special stage demo? I downloaded it but it doesn't work.

the game works but you must download cncs232.dll. The special stage was beautiful

Wait! I saw Egg Garden Zone. Did the creator get permission to insert that zone into his/her game?

if you look none of the graphics are the same. Plus I'm fairly certain Euan remade that zone after the merger with Retro Sonic. While Euan is no longer involved with the project I think he's happy it's being completed. At least that's the impression he gave me.
