Sonic Redesign

I have an idea for a complete overhaul of the series, possibly in the form of a manga or graphic novel. It's meant to have a more coherent and somewhat linear story than the comics and games currently have, and uses sources from both. It's set on Mobius, a world of of anthropomorphic people that up until recently was a feudal society, similar to Sonic and the Black Knight, until humanity arrived in Space Colony Ark, from a home planet that may or may not be Earth, and began modernizing most of the planet.

 

The story is set 100 years after the Ark touched down, and is set mainly around a brown hedgehog named Olgilvie, a Mobian Prince whose kingdom was annexed by Robotnik's "Iron Empire" while his brother and sister, Sonia and Maurice (Manic), are missing, his mother, Aleena, has gone into hiding, and his dad, Jules, has been robotized into Metal Sonic (aka, "Shard"). Olgilvie himself was captured, but used the help of a fox named Miles to escape after stealing a blue emerald that changed his fur color to azure and gave him speed based abilities. Olgilvie renamed himself "Sonic" and begins a resistance campaign against the Iron Empire, and Robotnik, in particular.

 

One of the major changes to the story is the emeralds themselves. This time, each individual emerald has its own power that grants the user a unique ability, such as the blue emerald giving someone speed, or the red emerald granting super strength, but each one acquired adds its own power to the user, resulting in a variety of combos, but the acquisition of all seven emeralds is what culminates in a glowing super form that is near impervious to damage while dishing out large amounts of it. The Master Emerald is immensely powerful in its own right, singlehandedly changing Knuckles into Enerjak, but it also has the added benefit of nullifying the power of the other 7 emeralds, making it a true prize.

 

There's also the story. While it's centered on Sonic, it also focuses on other characters that tie in, examining their backstories, as well as their character development as the story progresses. Everyone also has different fighting styles. For example, Sonic's are speed based, so he has no need of firearms, and instead uses special gloves and shoes designed by Miles (aka, "Tails") that deliver electronic pulses through contact, which allow him to disable some robots simply by punching and kicking them, while tougher enemies need to have explosives attached in the right spot. Acquiring all 7 emeralds allows him to go into "Excalibur Form" but only if he has all 7. Attempting to do so with less than all 7 emeralds would produce his unstable Dark Form, Weresonic (no stretchy arms, this time). This redesigned Weresonic isn't a wolf, per se, just a violent beast that vaguely resembles Sonic, which comes from the unstable energy within the hedgehog, which silver later refers to as his Iblis Trigger.

 

Tails is a pilot, so he drives vehicles that shoot, but he also controls combat based drones with a device on his wrist. While in captivity, he was experimented on, and had computer components attached to his brain, which is part of where his genius comes from, while the downside is that he's vulnerable to Hackers and Viruses. Fully upgrading the components in his body allows him to remotely interfere with electronics, such as telepathically sending self-destruct codes to incoming missiles. 

 

Shadow was one of the first mobians to be experimented on, aboard Space Colony Ark, starting out as an ordinary hedgehog named Ashura, but slowly being changed into the Ultimate Lifeform. What sets him apart from anyone else is the ability to naturally produce limited amounts of chaos energy from his very being. When he needs super speed, his eyes and fur streaks turn blue, and time around him briefly slows down. When he needs to sneak past someone, his eyes and streaks turn gray, and he blends in with his surroundings- again, for a short time. His default ability, however, is enhanced strength, which is why his eyes and streaks are red. His fighting style is more military based, since that's what he was made for, and he has exceptional skill with most weapons.

 

Just some examples of the changes the main characters will have in the story, but the minor ones, such as Mighty, Fang, Rob'O, and others also have a place in it.

 

The characters are meant to be more realistic, anatomically. As an example:

 

That means the characters will be wearing clothes, this time. Sonic's outfit will look like Cole Macgrath's from Infamous 2:

He'll also have eye goggles to protect his eyes from wind speed. They'll be on his forehead when he's not wearing them over his eyes.

 

Shadow's outfit will be more Metal Gear styled:

 

Rouge has experience as a thief, but she's also a skilled hacker, so her suit will be a wearable computer that can hack or infect anything she places her left on on, while her right hand uses a keyboard on her wrist:

 

And many other such changes that fit the characters.

 

There's also artifacts from Mobius' feudal era, like the Sword of Acorns, which Sally uses as her main weapon, but which Sonic uses when in Excalibur form.

 

The story is set in several stages, all of them long and full of development. The first is Sonic building up a resistance movement while Robotnik works his way up the chain of command within the Iron Empire, from a medium level military commander, to a full fledged dictator. The second is the rallied Freedom Fighters taking on Robotnik, and finally overthrowing him. The third stage is the appearance of Eggman, whose technological prowess exceeds anything Robotnik had, until he is discovered to be a time traveller from the future, and is beaten with the help of a shadowy organization claiming to be resistance fighters who are also from the future, until Eggman is defeated and the future resistance movement turns out to be Eggman's former accomplices, the Nocturnus, who decided to let him fall so they could rule the past without him getting in the way, and by Stage 4, the freedom fighters are forced to take on yet another threat that is even worse than Eggman, until a rogue Nocturnus named Silver reveals himself to be a spy within their ranks, and the future descendant of Shadow, who is their only hope of winning.

 

I got more that I could share, but I'm curious to know what you all think of it, so far?

This is too simple. There isn't enough information here. A thread needs to be worthy of making. Some pictures, footage, even just more words would have been better. You have not provided enough to get a conversation started. Make it worthwhile, entice us. People don't have enough information to answer your question. Draw us in with more information, and pictures. Editing your opening post is fine.

I have enough information to answer his question:

 

There is no likelihood that anything you ever do in terms of character design art will end up in any kind of official work related to Sonic unless you just happen to work for one of the entities that actually produces the stuff (Archie Comics being the most obvious), and even then it isn't very likely you would be able to push an aggressive redesign.

 

Basically your options are bribery or buying your way into the authority.
