New Sonic Cartoon "Sonic Boom"

Let me introduce you to discord, the main enemy of the first two episodes of season 2. His goal? To bring the world into absolute, complete, chaos.. And he succeds, not only that, but he manages to corrupt and the main 6 protagonist to their complete oposites. At least in the first of the two episodes, it looks like the world is doomed.

the beginning of literally every fanfiction ever

Sorry, but i forgot to mention, Discord is Q from startrek, voice, character and even reaality manipulation, make of that what you will.

oh, and lauren faust, who had major roles in "powerpuff girls", and "fosters home for imaginary friends" had a major role in said show.

Dude...they're ponies, what is there to develop? What kind of story can you make out of magical ponies? At least with sonic they're anthropomorphic and put in a context that allows for such things.

I mean The Lion King is one of my favorite movies of all time and the story is based on character development. But it was about lions and prides and the circle of life, not magical ponies with names like rainbow glitter and twilight candy surprise

how do you even come across watching this? How does it draw your attention? Which one of your friends recommends this to you

And this is exactly why you shouldn't be worried. If Sonic is so different from MLP, then why do we care that one guy on the writing staff just so happens to have worked on MLP?

The point I'm trying to get at is that all of you crying about any sort of MLP ties are fucking idiots. Never have I figured that you guys would have to put down a fucking cartoon about ponies into to inflate any self worth you have left for this dying franchise that should have been put down about 10 years ago, from a company whose death would greatly benefit the entire industry.

I believe I already voiced my opinion on this

Spoilers: it had nothing to do with MLP.

Edit:

Both amazing TV shows, i watched them and i loved them. But neither of those shows were about magical ponies what about this concept isnt sinking in

Look, I dont care about the show, i dont care about people who like the show, to each his own. It's the people who go to obnoxious lengths to vent their obsession, have tons of defenses lined up for watching it, yet act completely surprised when close-minded sheep of the social contract question why they're watching a show about magical rainbow ponies.

If a guy is a massive fanatic of porn and decides to let everyone who crosses his path be aware of it, then he really shouldn't act surprised when people point at him. Bronies aren't porn fanatics, but...magical rainbow ponies.

The plots get surprisingly deep for a cartoon for little girls, and each character is surprisingly well-developed, and relatable.

By the way, keep in mind this is the NEW my little pony show, not the old one with ridiculously bad stories and characters.

haha what the fuck is this? it's literally a show for little girls that manbabies think is deep. it's not. it's a a great show for young girls who are otherwise not represented in media but that's all it is.

edit:

AHAHAAAAA

THIS GUY

a good post

Powerpuff Girls was a success because it relied on the irony of some of the strongest, most impressive superheroes in the world being little girls in kindergarten. And what gave the show real viewing value was that each character had a distinct and likeable personality to explore in various episodes.

The irony with MLP, on the other hand, is that it doesn't need irony to be an enjoyable show. It's got great writing and characters with distinct and believable personalities. To assume that it's a dumb show because it's about magical ponies marketed towards little girls is to make the same mistake that many other childrens' shows make, which the creators of MLP intentionally steered away from; severely underestimating the depth the target audience can handle.

Hell, my sister is only 8 years old, and already a deeper thinker than most adults I know.

To say MLP is about magical ponies is to say that Powerpuff Girls is a show about little girls in kindergarten, or that Sonic is about fast rodents.

I love how you guys are dismissing the show on the very premise alone. Any premise can work, if the people involved do it right. The Social Network, a movie focused entirely around the founding of Facebook, could've been, by all rights, a boring as fuck movie, but it's a masterpiece. Likewise, MLP: FiP earned its fanbase through great writing and characters.

Tuah pretty much nails it on the head, really.

What? The "3 little girls" part in PPG was never paramount. Nobody watched PPG because it was ironic, what are you even saying? What?

To say MLP is about magical ponies is to say that Powerpuff Girls is a show about little girls in kindergarten, or that Sonic is about fast rodents.

But Powerpuff Girls IS a show about little girls in kindergarten. Sonic IS about fast animals and begins to get real shitty when that is taken out of context. And that is what you are doing right now. I never once said the show was dumb.

Are we talking about an upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog show, or about ponies?

Because if you guys keep talking about ponies, we're missing the entire point.

IT'S JUST ONE WRITER, JEEZ. The show will have nothing to do with ponies and shit, so stop.

The point is that it's not a matter of what the show is about. Sonic X was about fast animals as well, and most people here dislike it.

Rather, it's a matter of whether the show is smart and understands its audience. MLP:FiM is an example of a show that respects the intelligence of those viewing it much more than most other kids' shows these days. Quite unlike, say...

. The real pain begins around 1:28 by the way.

Consider Sonic X the 3.5 of the cartoons.

(Honestly I thought Sonic X is more equivalent to a 1.0. Generation 1 MLP actually wasn't too bad to watch. Was kind of an old-school fantasy sort of thing, just with ponies instead of peasants or whatever. Had some entertaining bits, even if most of it was silly.)

Oh my god I hope these designs are not translated to the games. Maybe I'm over reacting but I don't see how I'm going to like designs that fundamentally change the characters.

Sega has been trying to keep Sonic's brand more cohesive. Archie comics is closer to the games now, the 4 Kids actors replaced the old VOs, this to me spells trouble. Trouble like I have never dreamed possible. God I hope these designs are for the cartoons only.

http://blogs.sega.com/2013/10/02/sonic-boom-working-title-a-new-animated-series-coming-fall-2014/?0=1

So yeah, it's confirmed to be official.

Here's the entire post if you don't want to open another tab for some reason.

Sonic the Hedgehog, the iconic video game character who has brought his trademark speed and attitude to four TV series and more than 70 video games, is returning to television in his first-ever CG animated series in the fall 2014. The action packed comedy series aimed at children 6-11 will debut first on Cartoon Network in the U.S. and on CANAL J and GULLI in France, with a global rollout to follow. The initial order of 52 eleven-minute episodes is co-produced by SEGA of America Inc. and Genao Productions.

Sonic Boom is a character-driven comedy that leaves a trail of robot wreckage in its smoldering wake. The series centers on Sonic, his best friend and sidekick, Tails, their never-ending search for adventure, and their battles with Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman. Rounding out the ensemble are fan favorites Knuckles and Amy Rose, plus a rogue’s gallery of enemies—some familiar to Sonic fans and some brand-new.

Evan Baily, Donna Friedman Meir, and Jane McGregor, Executive Producers for SEGA, packaged the series, bringing together SEGA, Cartoon Network, and Genao Productions. Sandrine Nguyen and Boris Hertzog, Executive Producers for Genao, assembled a world-class lineup of partners in France, including broadcasters GULLI and CANAL J, Lagardere Entertainment Rights and Lagardère Active TV Licensing & New Business. Baily, Meir and Nguyen developed the series, and Hertzog and McGregor structured the financing and negotiated all the deals. Baily (formerly EVP of Production and Creative Affairs for Classic Media) and Co-Executive Producer Bill Freiberger (The Simpsons, Drawn Together) are showrunners. Takashi Iizuka, the head of Sonic Team and driving creative force behind the Sonic games, is overseeing the series to ensure that it’s true to the Sonic characters and universe.

“Sonic is the star of the SEGA universe and the stage is now set for him to shine like never before. By teaming up with world-class partners in television animation like Cartoon Network, Genao Productions and GULLI, we’re ensuring that the Sonic legacy will be introduced to a new generation of children across the globe,” said Hiroyuki Miyazaki, SEGA’s Chief Content Officer for Sonic.

“We wanted to strengthen our TV channels’ editorial content with strong brands. This is our new objective. Sonic is an enormously popular and unique character with all the qualities of an animation series’ great hero—humor, bravery, loyalty, inventiveness. We are extremely proud to welcome him across our kids and family channels at Lagardère Active and will activate across these channels to raise awareness and excitement for the new series,” said Caroline Cochaux, Head of Programs, Kids & Family Channels, Lagardère Active.

“Genao is thrilled to collaborate with SEGA on this amazing project and embark on new adventures with the fastest hedgehog in the world. It is so exciting to work on such a world-class brand,” said Sandrine Nguyen, Managing Director of Genao.

Emmanuelle Bouilhaguet, Managing Director of Lagardere Entertainment Rights added “It is an amazing experience to be associated to such a powerful property with professional partners. International broadcasters are seeking for strong comedy and franchise based series and Sonic Boom is the perfect fit!”

“On the New Business & Licensing Side, we are proud and excited to handle the representation of Sonic which counts among the leading characters loved by kids. Thanks to our 360° platform which includes Digital Activities, Magazines, Indoor Parks, Grass Root events, we will push Sonic and the Consumer Products to a new level,” said Benoit Roque, Head of Lagardere Active TV Licensing & New Business.

SEGA is actively seeking partners in support of the new series launch across a range of industries including broadcast and licensing. In terms of television and digital distribution, Lagardere Entertainment Rights holds worldwide rights excluding the U.S. and Asia (but including Japan); SEGA Corporation will manage Asia (excluding Japan); Baily, Meir and McGregor will manage the US through McGregor’s company Jane McGregor, Inc. Licensing support will be spearheaded by Lagardère Active TV Licensing & New Business in France and SEGA in all other territories.

Sonic the Hedgehog first appeared as a videogame character in June 1991 and instantly became an icon for a generation of gamers. Defined by his super-fast speed and cool attitude, in the years since he first raced on to videogame consoles Sonic has become a true global phenomenon with over 140 million videogames sold or downloaded worldwide across consoles, PC’s, mobile phones and tablets. SEGA’s iconic blue blur has also gone on to enjoy incredible success in many licensed areas, such as toys, apparel, comics and animation. This year SEGA announced an exciting three title exclusive partnership with Nintendo for the Sonic the Hedgehog videogame franchise. The highly anticipated Sonic Lost World™ will be the first title to launch under this agreement and will be available in stores later this year for Wii U™ and Nintendo 3DS™ platforms.
