StealthyMC
So after a... I dunno, 2 month hiatus, work finally resumed on this project a couple of weeks ago. Transitioning from a regular school to magnet school is a huge adjustment, so I haven't had much time to put any work in, as the game's programmer. Delta has been getting some graphics done here and there, but nothing huge has been done yet. So, without further ado, here are some compiled screen shots of Shimmering Shores' progress! Huge thanks to Overbound as well for the help on the blue trail. Seems like he taught me a thing or two about coding as well.
Apricity
I don't like the sprite you're using for the trail tbh. It's blurry and just sticks out from the rest of the sprites. The totem poles are a bit flat aswell and don't really match the colours of the level, it's too dark. I dislike the contrast of the dark brown to the bright yellow. Other than that it's looking really good and I really wish we'd have a demo soon because it's been like 1 & a half years ;-;
Delta Hedgehog
Actually, this game has been in the making since late 2009/early 2010, and SuperBliz became the official programmer for the game in maybe..... early to mid 2010, so it's been a long time, but we will finally have a demo for you soon! And I'll fix the totem pole.
BlitznBurst
The trees look pretty bad as well. Or the leaves, anyway.
Delta Hedgehog
What do you suggest I do to "fix" the leaves?
OverbounD
I suggest you find a good shading reference and shade it in a similar fashion. The palmtree from Isolated Island comes to mind.
Delta Hedgehog
When you think about it, it's the same type of shading, only with dithering. Plus the tree's leaves have more depth than mine.
OverbounD
I don't really see the resemblance. Yours is just like stripes and the Chaotix leaves have depth because of the shading. If you want to improve yours I'd put the reference right in your file and try to draw shading on your leaves as close as you can get it. Taking into consideration the angles of the leaves of course. Delta Hedgehog
In reality, I tried shading it like this: However I think I have too few colors.

Delta Hedgehog
I find it baffling how you two didn't recognize the screenshot. I was showing the inspiration for the tree shading.

Delta Hedgehog
I'll try reshading it.
BlitznBurst
I would also suggest putting the leaves in front of the coconuts. It doesn't make much sense that they appear behind them.

Delta Hedgehog
Better? I tried adding more leaves and make the shading more realistic.

I would ask for you to change the trunk but I'm sure you like the Ristar one. Maybe custom? Also, maybe try a tiny bit of shade on the top two coconuts. OverbounD
Here's another idea. Take the basic Ristar trunk you have and straighten out the shading so its 90 degrees, straight up. Sonic trunks are typically straight so I think if you change it it will look more authentic. All you have to do is a small section and then you can duplicate it up. OverbounD
It doesn't look any different. Here is a video of what I meant.
