  1. Over the years, many of us got to see the likes of the Nintendo 3DS. For the first couple of months, it became one of Nintendo's biggest flops alongside the Virtual Boy (Remember that piece of garbage?). Then massive sparks of innovative games easily made the 3DS the go-to handheld when it comes to games. Immediately 1 year (and a few months) after the launch of the original 3DS, was the launch of the 3DS XL. There's not much to discuss about this one, seeing as the only thing to discuss is the larger battery size, memory size, and bigger screens. Sometime down the road, while Nintendo is rolling in the cash gained from the games for the 3DS, they rolled out with the 2DS: The kid-friendly alternative to the 3DS. It's not fold-able, doesn't have 3D, and all at a cheaper price. It can be considered the Kid of the 3DS family. All of that comes down to today. During one of Japan's Nintendo Directs today, they were discussing about new info about certain stuff. One of the info was that Shulk is going to be playable in Smash 4. Shulk: Ey, guys! Didn't expect to see me, did you? What? You did? Oh. And then they unveiled the newest member to the 3DS family: The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL! The New 3DS and New 3DS XL has a C-Stick (Reminiscent of the Gamecube's C-Stick), 2 second shoulder buttons (Also like the z button acting as a second shoulder button on the Gamecube Controller!), and best of all, has colorful buttons (ALSO like the Gamecube controller!) Satoru Iwata stated that this New 3DSes would support better CPUS so that existing games and future games would perform better. Also, it would sport games that would be exclusively on the New 3DS, and one of the exclusives is a port of Xenoblade Chronicles. Both models would release on October of this year in Japan. So tell me guys, what are your thoughts on this new (No pun intended, I swear) piece of hardware? I am honestly curious. Since many people had opinions on the Status Update section, I figured this needed a proper Forum Topic!
  2. What's your favourite video game of all time, and why? Mine is The Urbz: Sims in the City. I'm specifically talking about the handheld version released for the GBA and DS. The console version is entirely different, and terrible in comparison. It's an action adventure life simulator. You are in direct control of your sim and explore a large city doing missions and tasks to progress the story. There's tons of areas to explore and many people to meet with all different kinds of mini games to play and houses to live in. It's incredibly addictive and full of content. I've had the game for nearly 9 years and it's still fun to play. I'm still discovering new secrets. It has given me lots of fond memories. I can't say that about many other games. If you're a fan of Animal Crossing or any other games in the sims series, then I recommend trying this one out.
  3. As some of you might have seen on the status updates, I had a small conversation with Sir Spacebar about creativity. I had answered him, that looking at other peoples projects and then working on your project is "not a way to get creative original ideas". He replied that there is no "orignality". I've been thinking about this and have come up with a theory about creativity. Let's take my "original" gimmick ideas and the gimmicks I created for Spykid's level-layouts as examples. My theory divides "originality" and "creativity" into 2 mayor and 2 minor fields. The 2 mayor fiels are the "original" creativity and the "unoriginal" creativity. "Original" creativity is the creativity in which you, as the creator, were free of the ideas of others. I.e. You didn't play any game or watched any media that may have influenced you. The idea created doesn't have to be purely "new". An example of an "original" idea of mine are the drills. While other think those are "already" done, I still came up with them without thinking or seeing other drill-like gimmicks. "Unoriginal" creativity is the creativity in which you, as the creator, can find a source of your Ideas. I.e. You know that your idea IS similar to an idea you've seen before. In an gimmick of mine , that would be the icicles in an ice-themed stage in his fangame. I know I put them there because I've seen the same idea in Sonic Adventure DX, during Sonic's Ice Cap part. The 2 minor fields are more of the "unoriginal" field-part. The first one "plagiarism" is pretty selfexplanatory. These are the "original" gimmicks, that were taken directly from a source without making large changes to them. The most common example would be the looping. Found first in Sonic 1 and then almost everywhere. The other one would be "lifting" ideas from a source. Again, it is selfexplanatory. As an example you can take the "multi-loop" from Sandopolis Zone in S3&K. It is similar to the "original" looping from Sonic 1, but still is different in terms of the amount of "loops maken" in it. Do you agree with my theory? Do you have a different idea of "originality"? Can you find examples which help your or my theory? Start a discussion in the replies!
