New Publishing Date for IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog Comics

Last year we covered the news of SEGA ending a 24 year long partnership with Archie Comics after a expired contract dispute at the end of 2016.

It was then announced by the Sonic the Hedgehog official Twitter that the comics will continue under IDW, a very successful comics publishing company that has also resurrected the likes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The X Files, Ghostbusters, Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, among others.

This is big news for the Sonic fans as the last issue of Sonic ended with a cliff hanger. It’s also uncertain what will happen to the future releases of the Sonic Archives.

At NYC Comic Con a few weeks ago IDW announced that the new series will begin in in April 2018. It’s unknown if original Sonic SatAM characters will return but it’s been hinted IDW and SEGA want to start with a fresh modern take on the Sonic series.

It’s only been confirmed that Ian Flynn from the original Archie series will be returning as script-writer.
